The only shortcoming of the hotel is there is no lift. Our rooms were on third floor, if I knew there is no lift I would ask the hotel to arrange one room on the first floor as my father has arthritis and it is very very difficult for him to climb the stairs

It's a little hotel but the hotel decoration is very beautiful. The Concierge is very nice. The room is clean. There are tea and snacks in the room. There are a set of Yukata to change. There is a private toilet. There is a hot spring bath in the shared bath.

This place is beautiful ! Everyone should definitely stay here if they come to Takayama ! It was more lovely than I could have imagined. It felt so traditional and warm and smelled amazing ! It’s everything I imagined a ryokan to be. The owners are so respectful , hospitable, kind, and helpful ! It was a wonderful experience ! So quiet and relaxing

A beautiful ryokan tucked in a quiet street. Staff don’t speak English but they were helpful and friendly. I would certainly recommend and would stay again. The onsen experience was great!

There was some large water stains on the roof of the room. When the hairdryer was plugged in to use in the shared bathroom it affected the lights, which made me a bit nervous.

Very close to the station. The names of the guests on the front board was a nice touch. Fun to see your own name there. It's a very old building in need of some TLC but it did exactly what we needed, which was a place to crash for the night.

So cozy especially given that outside is raining and cold. I have given up eating outside for dinner and breakfast, but just buy from convenience store and eat in the room desk while watching tv. The onsen is also my first time experience and it’s super relaxing.

Excellent value for money! Half way between the station and old town, this is a true gem. Our room was huge and had a private bathroom, as well as 2 balconies.

Pleasantly surprised about public bath being tattoo friendly. Staff was great! I really enjoyed my time here. They even write your name out in the front of establishment.

The mattresses are a little hard but we didnt mind that. The restaurants all needed reservations in advance but that has nothing to do with Yama no Iori.

The friendlyness of the staff and room decoration was top-tier. The onsen was great, very relaxing. When you walk onto the property, there will be a sign with your name on it, we thought that was a very cool detail! There are simple maps of Takayama available in the Lobby, the old man owner showed us some nice place to go to. It was very rainy our first day and we got complimentary umbrellas. We really loved everything about this place. Two small tips for 1st time visitors: 1 make sure you reserve a restaurant in advance! 2 bring a good coat or plenty of layers!!

The place offer no breakfast but there is a fantastic coffee place just 5 minutes walking, so we really enjoyed our stay.

This was the only hotel where we found really comfortable futon. They have very thick mattress and they are extremely comfortable. We took the room without private bathroom but it was absolutely fine since the common bathroom is really nice and pleasant.

Enjoyed the onsen after a cold day, room was clean and near to tourist attraction. Appreciate the hot tea and coffee at the lobby. Room was spacious and quiet too

Nice traditional style rooms with a good amount of space for two and a bathroom. The onsen baths felt a little old but were very quiet and open for a good amount of time.
