Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomLocation is quite out of the way, not near any super close to Amy of the tourist sites you might come to Shizuoka for. Could have been cleaner. Noticed some mold in one of the rooms by a vent. Bed were also a little stiff and only one pillow is provided for each guest. Even if you book a room with a double bed for yourself you will only get one pillow.
Great toiletries provided and free refills in lobby. Digital check in and check out available in English. Staff were very helpful and flexible.

AustraliaThe room size was small, including the bed, and the inability to open windows limited ventilation. The inconsistent internet speed was also a downside. Furthermore, the inconvenience of having to ascend a flight of stairs to reach the entrance was a bit bothersome.
The hotel was decent overall, offering a satisfactory experience. Despite the minor inconveniences, such as the distance from the train station, I found the stay acceptable. Additionally, the hotel's setup and ambiance seemed adequate for a comfortable stay. The rooms were notably clean, contributing positively to the overall experience.

JapanThe renovation is new-ish but has a somewhat unfinished feel: missing socket covers in the hallway, scratches on an oldish furniture piece. Wifi was very slow. The reception desk person should consider wearing a clean shirt. That and a single long hair I found on the wall above the bath tub left me with somewhat of an unclean feeling.
Great location in the hip Hitoyado-cho area. Renovation seems new, but the craftsmanship quality is low, like a missing socket covers in the hallway.

GermanyRoom and especially bathroom were quite small, but it was still alright - bathing times for women were very limited and kind of inconvenient
Breakfast was delicious - drink dispenser with big selection all day long - lots of amenities - rooms were clean and neat - located in walking distance to main station and very close to city centre, convenience stores etc. - small but nice onsen free to use

SingaporeThe distance from the station would be further than you think it is from Google maps, especially when you are carrying luggage. Another thing is that the information on the TV in the room was not updated and can provide misleading information. The onsen smelled of chlorine, hence after the first try, we did not go back. Additionally, as it is shared, there is allocated time for each gender. There was also a light switch that was spoilt.
Staff were very helpful and went out of the way to help us. Room was an okay size for it's price.

UkraineI didn’t like that they had parking, but we couldn’t use it as it was fully packed by the time our family arrived. I was searching the hotel with filter “parking” and this option looked the best among others in the list. But if I knew in advance parking spot should be reserved or that I need to take an action to take like coming earlier to take a vacant spot, it would make my life much easier.
The hotel looks new and stylish. it’s in the centre of Shizuoka city. The onsen is small, but nice. Made with new materials and with a beautiful green wall in front of the bathtub. Also during the breakfast the staff (a chef?) in the kitchen was extremely nice and he could speak English. He kindly explained us all about the dishes and recommended the best one - tonkatsu. All the food was very delicious! I’d like to come again someday.

United KingdomAs above
This is not a hotel for tourists outside of Japan. The room we stayed in was average at best. One wall was like a chipboard that had no paper or paint. Now, I may be a little bit picky. But it was a tiny room, breakfast was japanese, that's fine, but a small piece of brioche bread, and croissants does not make it European. There was no reserve toilet paper in our room. It did run out, so I waited for the train station to go to the ladies. It felt a little bit in the seedy part of town. Sadly, I'd never stay here again.

JapanSize, but for a few nights it's okay
The breakfast was tasty. The room was comfy, but a little bit small for two people. Also about location: it was difficult to find the bus station, so we went by walk and it was a little bit so far. But in general it was cool.

FranceToo bad that there is only one onsen... There are times for women (6am-9am ; 5:45pm-9:30pm for example) and times for men. The breakfast seems a bit expensive (1500¥ if I remember well) for a buffet. I did not tried it though so maybe it worse it .
Check-in, check-out is super easy and fast (with a machine, english available). Hot drinks, juice self-service and free. Super close to the center with lots of restaurants and cafés.

BelgiumDon't expect anything more than the bare basics. If you're on an extended holiday, I would recommend maybe looking somewhere else, as the rooms are not intended to spend any time in, as they aren't roomy enough to be in for more than 1 or 2 nights. Lastly, despite the various wi-fi connections provided at the hotel, I was unable to connect to any of them.
If you are travelling for work, or need a small hotel to stay for a day (or two) during a work-, city- or roadtrip, or basically want a bare basics stay, then Hotel Oak Shizuoka can definitely meet you with that. It presents a clean and easy to stay place with friendly and accommodating staff.
