Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe coin laundry machines seemed to be all broken and there was a note attached to visit a nearby coin laundry instead.
The facilities and rooms are very clean and stylized and there is a daily cleaning service. The rooms are of a good size and are almost comparable to European Ibis Hotel counterparts in terms of size. Amenities are provided. The location is pretty good as it is in between 2 stations which we alternated between. From Kyoto station you can take the Karasuma subway line to Shijō. I chose to go with the breakfast option which is realized in the form of coupons for Tully's Coffee where you can trade in coupons for either a hotdog or pancakes breakfast option with salad, yogurt and coffee.

GermanyLocation not too close to Gion and the main temple area. Rooms quite small and didn’t smell great at times. Breakfast is a pre-set menu (only choice between hotdog and pancake, and choice of beverage), which becomes repetitive after several nights
Reasonable hotel on one of Kyotos main streets. Close to shopping areas, and 5m walk from metro station. Breakfast was good too (they cooperate with the Tullys café next door to serve breakfast)

CanadaOur room wasn’t very clean, hair all over the bathroom and carpets had crumbs everywhere.
Great location, in walking distance to everything or train/bus station. Lots of restaurants around and coffee shop connected to the hotel was a plus!

SingaporeThe location was amazing, with 2 bus stops directly outside of the hotel, subway station within walking distance. Within the area has a 24hrs laundry outlet, many food restaurants and convenience store. It’s very near the main shopping district.

United StatesBathrooms needs to be clean more specially the toilet. The beds were not too comfy for my back. The windows are blurred and you can open them just a bit. So, it feels very claustrophobic some times. If you want to use the laundry machine it is a race and your clothes does not come out dry after 2 hours.
Staff was great and helpful. The room was confortable for two people. Location was spot on, lots of restaurants and markets near by. Very easy to navigate the area, walkable to major attractions and the bus stops is with in 2 minutes walk.

United KingdomThe room we had was quite compact, there wasn't much space to hang clothes or to put our bags, so we had to put them on the floor, taking up what little floor space there was. You probably wouldn't want to stay here with a big suitcase.
The hotel is in a good location, a few minutes walk from the metro and within walking distance of lots of places. It was clean and served it's purpose. For what we paid it was really good value for money.

MexicoThe rooms looked a little old and run down, but other than the aesthetic of it we had no issues.
Very affordable and in a nice location. Amenities are a little bit lacking, but if you just want a quiet and peaceful place to go to sleep after a day out touristing this hotel is a pretty solid choice.

AustriaLittle noisy due to the location right next to the street, but at least you can open the window a bit.
Very good English skills of the staff and very helpful, good luggage storage, convenience stores right next to it and walking distance to a lot of restaurants (try the Tanmen place 50m on the left, delicious!). Stylish lobby and rooms are okay sized for Japanese standards. Unlike other places they weren‘t adamant about checking-in time and gave us the room a little earlier. Comfy beds.

SingaporeIt can be a little far from the more lively Kawaramachi area but we did enjoy the nice walk at night when the weather was chilly. The lifts can be a bit slow at times but the negative points are really minor in my opinion.
The rooms were clean and spacious. The bathroom was bigger than your average Japanese hotel bathroom too. Good number of convenience stores nearby as well as two 24h supermarkets. We stayed at a few hotels throughout Kansai during this trip and this was the best of them all.
