Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomDon’t expect anyone to speak great English, you get by fine anyway and all the staff are so polite and happy.
The photos and information doesn’t do the Iya Onsen Hotel justice. Everyone and everything is wonderful but the best bit was our own private outdoor onsen bath with spectacular Mountain View and kimonos, closely followed by the cable car and public outdoor onsen. Top tip: Make use of the kimonos in the room and wear them to the restaurant, don’t worry as everyone else will be wearing theirs.

AustraliaThere is no elevator which makes Iya Onsen difficult for guests who have mobility issues to move from floor to floor.
Location was spectacular, the ropeway and outdoor baths were wonderful and the food was delicious. Staff were lovely and very accommodating.

Hong KongIt would be nice if the closing time of the outdoor onsen was a little later. It would also be nice if the dinner menu was provided in English (one night it was, but the other was not) However, these didn't affect the enjoyment of our stay. Highly recommended hotel
A very special hotel. We had a wonderful stay. The room was spacious and the outdoor bathtub was beautiful. The location and scenery is incredible Food options were delicious and high quality. The outdoor onsen was perfect and convenient to access. This is a very unique hotel and a special experience. We stayed for 2 night which was the perfect amount to experience the hotel and sights in the surrounding area.

Iya onsen is in a remote , beautiful location in the Iya gorge. the service is impeccable , and the facilities are very clean. the highlights are the quality if the water and view of the outdoor bath, the amazing degustation breakfast and dinner ( 9 courses) and the beautiful yakuta etc. they pick you up at the station and take you to the hotel , the journey itself is a treat

FranceThe menu was in full japanese. I didn't really ask for the english one however, it was sort of fun to discover it on the way. The place is beautiful but without a car you can't do much, since all the ways around are roads.
I booked there one week before leaving Japan since I never went to an Onsen. It is definitely not the regular kind of onsen and more of the high end kind. the food was original and tasteful (both evening and breakfast) both the indoor and the outside bath were beautiful and the staff was speaking good english. If you are tall, notify them, they had to change my Kimono since they did not expect me to be this tall (over 178cm you should probably tell them).

AustraliaBit expensive, but worth it for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Also, be aware that the public outdoor onsen smells of sulphur. I don't mind too much, but just worth knowing. Oh, and the beds were very firm. I know some people like that, but too hard for me.
This is a serious once in a lifetime experience. The outside bath is amazing. The indoor bath is also amazing. We had the room with the private bath, and the view was phenomenal. Staff were also super lovely and helpful. I don't know if this always the case, definitely ask first, but they let my partner, who has a mid-sized tattoo, use the public bath. That was really appreciated.

JapanThe futon was not particularly comfortable, but that was probably more because of my old western body! Other than that there wasn't anything I didn't like.

FranceVery poor value for the money. The accommodation is not comfortable (futons), service is ok but not at the level of asked price, the en suite "onsen" is ridiculously small. The mini fridge is empty which again at this price level is an absolute shame. All in all priced at about 3 times the real value... I won't come back.
The public bath (cable car to go down there) was nice and relaxing.
