People drying their stinky shoes with hairdryers in the common bathroom was very unpleasant. The whole place stunk. I could even smell their shoes in my room. It would have been nice if the staff had said something to the person.

A small hiccup that the air conditioner in the assigned room wasn't working so we had to move to another room.

A cheaper option to stay away from Kyoto City during peak autumn season if you are driving. Love the bath house and the well-equipped common kitchen. Staff is helpful. The property is clean.

Lack of light if one arrives late and isn’t driving. Signage is great during light but at night not visible.

The location is a bit further from the train stop (18 minutes walk) which is okay. For most sightseeing things you'll have to hop on the train or rent a bike. There are no supermarkets, but there are two convenience stores nearby and some food available for purchase at the hostel. The hostel is a bit older, so you'll hear some noise from other floors.

The staff were super friendly and helpful and the guy owning the cafe downstairs plays really nicely the piano. The kitchen is beautiful and has a relaxed atmosphere, and I especially liked the Sento (Japanese bathing house). Oh and of course, the beach is almost in front of the hostel!

The beds are a little too firm, but the worst thing about the hostel are the paper thin walls and slamming doors. Just be aware you can hear everything (people talking, bathroom doors closing, sliding doors) which may make it difficult to fall asleep, and you may be awoken in the morning by people in the shared sink areas and halls.

This hostel has a lot going for it - great location with views of the lake, nice shared kitchen/dining room area, nice shared bath and showers (recently remodeled), and vending machines.

The staff were not as friendly to me as others seem to have found - I finally got a smile from a female staff member when I checked out! I'm not sure how well the filter in the bath worked - there were floating hairs and black bits in the water. I guess the location wasn't the best: It is a bit of a walk from the station. Of course, if you were on a bike that wouldn't be an issue. There are no restaurants open in the evening and no stores in the neighbourhood so you need to plan ahead. However, the kitchen is fully stocked for cooking. You have to walk quite far to access the beach as the local resorts won't let non-customers cut through. The beach near the hostel was full of noisy jetboats and loud speaker announcements but if you walk north you can find quieter sections.

Caveat - I stayed off-peak and paid for a single room but was given a double tatami room, so I was very satisfied. The room was simple, very clean, and with access to a balcony so I could dry my swimwear. The hostel was very quiet at night. I appreciated that the shoji screens had blackout curtains behind them so I wasn't woken by the sun at 5 a.m.! The kitchen was probably the cleanest hostel kitchen I have ever seen! The staff seem to be constantly cleaning the whole place. The 12 p.m. check-out was great as I could relax in the morning. The shared bath was modern with shower gel and shampoo provided. The toilets were very clean although the sinks in the room did not have soap so I had to go across the corridor and wash my hands at other sinks which did have soap - a bit weird!

The place was somewhat difficult to find due to lack of signs from the direction I arrived, and there was some miscommunication of the cancellation of my reservation, but fortunately it was resolved. The bed (futon) was a bit hard for my bones, but the blanket was wonderful.

The place was well situated close to the beach, it was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The bed berth in the shared room was spacious and good. The building had a nice balcony from which one could enjoy looking at the stars in the night. One could also rent a bike to explore the environment and near-by beaches, and there was a nice Hawaiian restaurant next door that served good breakfast. The bathroom and toilets were exceptional and new, I especially enjoyed the big bath (which I happened to have just for myself) - the white colour was very calming after the day's bustle.

Its a bit secluded, but if you have your own transport its 3min drive from the station and also from the neares store. If not the store is 25min walk away but you can rent a bike (100yen for an hour) and then its a 10min drive.

The hostel is very clean and big. The bed and capsule you get are also big! I could fit my backpack in there and still had plenty of space! There is Ac in the room. The public bath looks very modernised and western but it was still comfortable! The beach is 4min away, there is also a terrace in the hostel that has shade in the afternoon and its very comfortable to spend time on. The wifi works great, I could watch youtube with no problem!

I was not a fan of the showers, I did not think they had consistent water pressure.

The attention of one of the volunteers who was cleaning. She was a tall girl with long blond hair. She was quite unpolite when I was using the bathroom, and I heard more complains about her from another guests too.

Everything was practical and clean. The kitchen and dining room area were nice and comfortable. The sento was great too. You can rent a bike to move around the town and it's really near the lake.

The mattresses in the pods are incredibly thin, so it felt like I was sleeping on the floor.

I was doing the Biwaichi cycle and this hostel was right next to the route. There was also a place to store my bike. There is a beautiful beach with white sand nearby where I went swimming. The pods were bigger than others I've stayed in and I thought the shared kitchen/living space was excellent - there was everything you could need to make a meal and the vibe was very friendly. Nice showers and a really nice public bath as well. The staff were really friendly and helpful with recommendations. I'd definitely stay again.
