The property was clean and in an excellent location. It was stocked with coffee, tea, water, snacks, washing pods, and everything needed for a great stay. There were maps and guide books, plenty of cuddly towels and amenities such as toothbrushes, loofahs, and a washing machine and dryer function from the bathroom. All wonderful. The hostess also did us a great favor in forwarding some forgotten important items. This was beyond the norm and appreciated.

Very clean and had all the amenities. There are. Comfy beds, clean shower and bath, washing machine, drying fan in the bath, plenty of towels, etc. the location is excellent and the host provided tea, coffee, snacks , water, and maps and books about Kyoto. Everything was wonders. Love this place and would return again.

The place is amazing. Exceptionally equipped with everything, down to the last detail. Location is the best.surrounded by small shops, restaurants and anything needed. Great welcome, easy check in. Highly tecommended.

Perfectly appointed facility in the perfect place to enjoy the area. Easy access to buses and taxi as well as a great local grocery and spots to eat. Kind and welcoming hostesses. The private onsen was so relaxing 😌

Aesthetics and precision in arrangement of all things. The Japanese room for contemplation, the wall hangings and pictures, the crockeries, bed and linen. the warm welcome of the staff.

IT IS NOT A DISLIKE BUT… IMPT: Please check / confirm with host re: your sleeping requirements. There were 2 of us and we required separate bedrooms. We had assumed (our bad) we had the use of both of the bedrooms. It turned out that we were both placed in the same bedroom, 2 separate beds, while the other bedroom was laid out as a Japanese-styled ‘sitting room’. We would have had to pay additional (the host eventually waived it as we said there was mention of 2 bedrooms) to use the 2nd room as the host had to lay out Japanese-styled bedding (the futon etc.) The one who slept in the room with two beds was asked not to use the other bed.

Warmly welcomed by host, who was efficient and accommodating (read what we ‘did not like’ about property). She provided house rules and neatly presented and clear instructions (in English) to operating the main home appliances in the house, which were most appreciated. The location of the machiya is 👍🏻 - quiet as it’s tucked away from the main road yet less than 5 mins walk to it. Bus stops and casual eateries dot the main road. The house has a well-equipped kitchen and laundry necessities. Tea and coffee provided as was a small basket of snacks.

Everything was great...

Love the decorations, the bath(so relaxing), beds are firms and really comfortable ...near kiyomizu-dera, and other temple...only buses brings from kyoto station... but there is also a local train...not too far... the hostesses are really nice...there is instructions to translate how everything works in the house... it is a great idea that we didn't find at other place... we had a 2 floors city house Japanese style for ourselves ...really clean...

As in most Japanese accommodations there is not much storage space, but it is really a minor detail.

This place is a gem. The kindness of the staff is incredible, they accommodated a last minute request to anticipate our check in in respect of the agreed time without any problem. Communication (preferably via message) was very easy and responses fast. The machiya is a delight, superbly well appointed, quiet, comfortable for a small group or family, spotlessly clean. There is everything to make your stay cosy, even for longer periods (we stayed 6 nights). Kyoto's sight on the east side are within easy walking distance (Kiyomizu-dera, Gion and Sanjusangen-do each within 10 minutes) and plenty of buses/taxis to be found on the main road 2 minutes away. It was a true pleasure to stay here while visiting wonderful Kyoto!

The townhouse is thoughtfully designed and extremely well equipped but would be even better if there were a handrail on the stairs.

The place was a little far from Kyoto station and required taking the bus to get there.

The hosts were very hospitable and nice. I forgot some clothing during checkout and they reached out to me to return the items.

noted in summary

absolutely loved the property, location, convenience etc. kitchen was great with an espresso machine and just enough necessary comforts. bath and tiny zen garden butte was an absolute delight. washer was a greatly appreciated feature for us! the bed and pillows were forever than I like, but that is totally a preference… the only thing to note is that there bedrooms - western and tatami room are upstairs (steep risers) and the bathroom is downstairs. It is fact in Japan and just something to note. No complaints and will DEFINITELY request a booking again in the future.

Didn’t find any

This must be one of the best places I have ever stayed at. And I like to travel comfortable. It is something about it, that made me feel so welcomed and safe and cosy. Every detail of this tiny house is treated by the owner with love, everywhere you turn you can feel someone wanted you to feel at home. And you do. It’s squeaky clean, there are appliances and amenities you may need, you can warm this place in an instance, it’s conveniently located 15min from Kiyiomizudera, in a back alley, so there is no noise when you sleep. Even beds and pillows were exactly to my liking! Above all, it feels like constantly inhabited home, letting you relax completely, without feeling self-aware, as so often happens in unknown places. PS. The house looks better than on the pictures. There’s more space.
