How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Jiro-san is an exceptional host, he's so friendly and welcoming and knows great local places to visit or eat. The place feels very homey and clean. The bed was comfortable and the room was a nice size. There is a bus stop nearby which makes it easy to get to and fro from Kamakura station.

Jiro IS a very good anfitrion. Very kind and helpful. Far from the station but near of amazing shrines. The room IS very basic but clean..

Jiro is very nice and good host. I enjoyed morning chats with him. It feels like home because basically it is home. You can cook for yourself if you need. There is tea and coffee provided by the host. Thank you very much ❤️

Jiro is an amazing and friendly host, always available and kind! We stayed here just for 1 night but if we are going to come back in Kamakura for sure we will come back here! The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay!

the hostel is clean and cute! the location is not bad and you can reach practically everything on foot, in any case there is a bus stop near the hostel! the guests I met were exceptional, but the best thing was definitely the owner! I will definitely be back! ☺️

The host is awesome he knows the area very well and has amazing suggestions. The best host you could ever have. He saw that I was struggling learning Japanese and went out of his way to get a digital dictionary for me. Best place to stay in Kamakura. He has bikes available for rent surfboards available for rent backpackers Paradise. Anything you need to enjoy the area to its full potential is there.

The owner is an incredible person. He was always helpful and provided a lot of local information and travel tips. The house is really nice. Located a bit off the main touristic routes, but in a nice local neighborhood.

Nothing, it was everything I needed.
This was my favorite homestay in Japan. It felt more like being the guest of a friend in his house. Jiro is an amazing person. He did everything he could to make me feel comfortable and taken care of. We had great conversations. He only takes a few guests at a time so you really get peace, quiet and space. He let me use his bike whenever I needed it. I could cook my meals in the kitchen. The gym in the living room was a big plus. I came here feeling exhausted from other hostels and the city. I was able to get great rest here and feel at peace. I will absolutely be back if I am in the area.

feel like staying at home. Jiro is a very nice guy and we have many interesting and funny chats.Thanks for jiro' s bike, it helped me a lot. No matter staying here or at kamakura, it definitely is a wonderful memory! BTW, there once had my mark in the kitchen, don't forget the rule of animals world, hahaaaaaa

The toilet and shower is a bit old but definitely not bad. The location is good but not great. Will have to walk a bit to get to main attractions.
Very warm and cozy place. The owner Jiro is a great and helpful guy. Great value. The space is kept extremely clean.

Jiro is a great host. He was very helpful without being intrusive. The atmosphere was relaxed. The rooms had a maximum of two people. This hostel had everything I needed.

Kamakura can get a little touristy, but nothing to do with the guesthouse.
Jiro is a great guy, I had some wonderful conversations with him, it really felt like a 'guesthouse' where he was sharing a space that he has made into his own.

Jiro was super nice and spoke great english, surfboard and bikes were offered free of charge. It's about 20 minutes walk from the station but I think there is a close bus service, the beach is also a 15 minute walk. Clean and tidy.

Clean, friendly environment. Excellent host who goes out of his way to help guests. Many amenities in the house and close to forests, ancient sites and temples. And, the beach is only a short walk over the hill.
