How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Understanding the push for digitalization across businesses, self check-in is becoming the norm as it was the case for Kabin Kyoto. Would still prefer a more human touch rather than self-check in, but fair enough if done for efficiency
Excellent stay, with spacious rooms with comfortable beds! Also, the property has an inner patio with trees, which is extremely pleasant as it gives a nice fresh touch

Nice and clean rooms, really good showers. The location is in a calm neighborhood very close to subway stations. Also you can walk to many nice places and restaurants. The breakfast is a bit pricy but really good. So are the drinks at the hotel bar. The personnel ist tasks helpful and friendly. I had an awesome stay, thanks!

The staff is really friendly, the hotel is really nice and the room is very clean, comfortable and spacious. We have also used the washing facilities. The hotel is located in a quiet area so it feels a bit remote from other areas. It is a short walk from the Shinkyogoku shopping street and we used public transport to get to the main train station.

Bar in hotel a bit pricey.

The only downside was that the window did not open at all, it was sealed, with milky white film over it, so the only possibility to move the air in the room was with AC. The tourist tax needed to be paid on site, it is not included in the booking.com total room price.
The hotel offers comfortable rooms which are way larger than Japanese standard. Because of this our stay was more relaxing as we finally didn’t bump into our luggage at every step. The room was modern, with a very large bed and a few cupboards. The shower in the bathroom was awesome too. There was a washing machine on every floor, so convenient! The hotel stuff was very helpful.

The taxi driver from the train station had difficulty finding the exact location as the hotel name is different on Google maps (the previous hotel name shows on Google maps). Ideally the hotel would mention that on the website.
Everything was great, the staff were lovely and very helpful. The room was big and very clean. We will stay there again next time we are in Kyoto.

Can't think of anything really.
Everything! The most spacious room we had during our stay throughout Japan, with excellent in-room amenities as well as the laundromat being right outside our room. Staff were welcoming and helpful, genuine and friendly :) highly highly recommend Kabin Kyoto! And we'd book the same place if ever we come to kyoto again.

Everything was excellent!

I loved my stay here , very clean , friendly staff and spacious rooms for Japan. There’s also a bar downstairs and everything was walking distance . 100% recommend

1. I wish breakfast would be a bit more versatile. The breakfast is also quite expensive for the portions you are getting.

Only inconvenience is that there is no sink in the bathroom only in the kitchenette area.
Reception staff are incredibly helpful and speak English well. The location is a great place for a stay in Kyoto and the hotel is exactly as it aims to achieve quick and convenient without the 'fluff'. Super clean sleek rooms and the laundry facility with a washer/dryer in one that you can use and lock with a personal code to protect your laundry was the best!

The digital check-in was a pain. The next hotel today I simply gave them my passport, they matched it with the booking data and they returned it with my door card. Done. I don't want to open a hotel account, create a password, enter all my personal data and scan my passport to check in. Not my job.
Very nice room in a great area walking distance to transit and restaurants.

Walking distance to public transport is a little bit far.
Crews are friendly, the room is clean and nice. Big bed and space is big enough to open two big luggage bags.

The tea cups offered get too hot with the tea. Thus, you cannot drink it when the tea is hot....

We had breakfast one morning which was expensive and not the best. Luckily there is a lovely bakery around the corner. Laundry was available but pretty expensive compared to what we found elsewhere.
Modern and clean. Our room was spacious. It had a bar and breakfast options (which weren’t great) laundry too and the location was fabulous for reaching all the sites around Kyoto.
