Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PolandThe flip flops provided were all huge, so it would be good to provide different sizes. The bathroom lacked some space for putting your clothes - might be a good idea to install a small shelf, e.g. above the toilet. The TVs were old (not smart), so we weren't able to watch Netflix on the TV (there was no HDMI cable provided either).
Our room was nice and comfortable, including good beds and two pillows of different softness. Amenities such as tea, free access to clean towels or toilet paper were a plus. I loved the large shower in our bathroom. There was quite a lot of storage space for clothes (big closet). The staff was polite and friendly. The location was great - close to many restaurants etc., but away from the noise of main streets. We were also able to quickly and easily check in via an app prior to arriving at the hotel.

AustraliaPillows but I think that's a japan thing - they love their feather or rock hard pillows. No view - but happy to compromise for everything else it included.
Amazing place, friendly staff, perfect location - walking distance to nishiki market/pontocho alley/gion and handy to a few train stations to get to all your temples and shrines. Size of room was perfect, wish we had stayed longer. Also had washing facilities.

AustraliaBecause I booked this place for two different rooms I get to review it twice. I would return again. Great hotel that surpassed my expectations. Good location away from main roads. Room was very comfortable, the bathroom was cool and the shower superb. The staff were amazing and helpful. And reasonably priced too, I thought it was good value for money. It is a short walk to "Shijo-Dori" and the Nishiki Market and public transport to other parts of town is relatively close by. I really recommend the nearby restaurants Juju Teramachi for Okonomiyaki and Tsujiya Shijogokomachiten for Yakatori. Superb meals.

SwitzerlandThe hotel has a 3-day only cleaning service, and you can help yourself to any amenities and toilet paper etc, but personally its not an approach that I appreciated at a 4* star hotel. Would prefer a more regular approach (every second day). Staff was kind but none of them is Japanese and was a bit tricky to get help for reservations. They also do not offer transfer of luggage and you need to do that yourself.
Its a modern and nicely designed hotel, very well located in Kyoto center and facilities are new and comfortable.

New ZealandThe beds were quite hard even for Japan and it was a little strange to have the bathroom sink outside the bathroom. Apart from that it was great
Kabin Taka is beautifully decorated. The rooms were a good size for Japan. The staff are very helpful. The room was very quiet also.

ArgentinaRooms on the ground floor don’t have external ventilation such as opening windows. Also our room had a few problems in the bathroom: the extractor was not working nor the toilet remote control that control many of its key functions. This may not be the case across the board but it still was a bit disheartening to be given a room in such condition.
Kabin Taka is one of the many Kabin hotels in the area, but not the biggest one. The room was big and comfortable and the location is quite good (near Shijo station and shops, restaurants, etc) while still being a quiet street. The hotel is modern, has lavatory, amenities, and you can leave your luggge in a self storage area.

United KingdomWe really have nothing to complain about - if you pressed us, the only thing we lacked was a view from our window, but we didn't mind that much.
We absolutely LOVED Kabin Taka. It is a wonderful location for exploring Kyoto, with many great restaurants and bakeries nearby. It's so close to all of the transport links, so you can get anywhere quickly - or walk! The hotel itself is so lovely. Comfortable, contemporary, spacious.
