Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Japantwo beds were very hard. not enough room to walk easily; too much furniture needed one more bath option; larger bath with more hairdryer seating. a bigger lounge needed (a connecting door to the bath lounge was closed for some reason). a cocktail bar would have been nice since it’s not in town.
great bath with views all around super steam sauna could get a room with three beds great hotel bus service, to station and midtown

United StatesI personally thought the beds could be softer, that was my only complaint, went to jump into the bed(you know like most people do in a hotel) expecting a nice large soft bed, however I hit a hard bed haha

SingaporeIt is a little far from the main areas with not much public transport connections if you miss the shuttle bus. We found ourselves stranded one time when we took the public bus in the wrong direction - we had to either walk at least 45min to the hotel or wait for the next public bus for 30min (the driver was very helpful in advising us). In the end we decided to walk back to the nearest tram/street car station, take it back into Tenmonkan, and wait for the shuttle bus again.
Amazing view waking up to the sunrise over sakurajima every morning! The hotel may look a little bit old, but everything was in working condition and clean, plus it was very spacious and so very reasonable for the price. Most hotels in the city areas we can barely open our two luggages, but this one had plenty of space with even a small seating area and balcony. There are sakura trees just below the hotel which happened to be still in bloom even though we did not come specifically according to the sakura forecast. We got to enjoy them up close without going anywhere, which was a very nice surprise. There is a free shuttle bus from Kagoshima-Chuo station to the hotel, and the bus can also take you to the main shopping street, Tenmonkan. You can save a lot on transport by just taking the shuttle bus to these main areas. All the staff were very patient, friendly and smiling all the time. Just beside the hotel, there is a convenience store and a whole shopping arcade with 100 yen shop, grocery store and more. There are also many fast food (mos burger, macs) & restaurants (soba, udon, sushi) within walking distance around the hotel. The staff were efficient in calling a taxi on our last day. It cost about $10 by taxi meter to drop us off at the Toppy Fast Ferry port.

Israel🧺 Because it's more of a vacation hotel rather than a business hotel there is no coin laundry. 📍 Note that the location is not overly convenient (outlined the location in the positives, however)
🏨 I chose this hotel mostly for the views over Sakurajima and it did not disappoint. For the extremely fair price it was a great view, both from the room in my case and from the hot bath. Staff was great and extremely accommodating, and they seem to spoke a variety of different languages. It was possible to leave luggage for storage before checking in. The hotel is huge, and seems to be oriented to weddings or other similar events, but for a solo stay it still was a good choice. 📍 The location is not overly convenient, but there are free shuttle buses to/from JR Kagoshima-Chuo station and to Tenmonkan. Unfortunately, they have limited operation time, check the hotel for the timetable. At the time of my stay, the first bus from the hotel left only at 8-30, not early, and the first bus from the station left only at 13-00. There are however very convenient city buses, especially no. 16 that connect both to JR Kagoshima-Chuo and to the ferry terminal / aquarium. On the positive side — there's a large convenience store just outside the hotel. There's also even a souvenir shop at the premise of the hotel. 🚪 The room was big, and as mentioned, with a great view of Sakurajima from the balcony in my case. The noise isolation was great. There even was a radio built in the bedside table with options of spoken word and background music. 🛀🏽 The bathtub in the bathroom was of a very good size to be actually used as a bathtub. 🍱 Breakfast was exceptional, a huge buffet with a tremendous variety of options rarely seen in such amount elsewhere. 🛜 Wi-fi worked well in the room and in the common area. ♨️ There's a common hot bath with a great view over Sakurajima (obviously the view is there when it's not dark). It's a nice bath, not very crowded. There are small lockers for items like keys and phones.

Singapore(I don’t think the website should encourage guests to think of negative things- maybe they don’t really mind but with the prompting - it makes that complaint sound more serious than it should be)
Love waking up to seeing Sakurajima. The waterfront is a short walk away. Shops (like Uniqlo) and restaurants (cheap BBQ meat) across the road. Most importantly great staff like Hoang, a Vietnamese staff who spoke English and took very good care of us.

Germany-
Wonderful hotel with a very nice ambiente, friendly staff and stunning views of the Sakurajima volcano. Everything was great, the spa/onsen was awesome and there was even a free shuttle bus to the train station. The location is good to explore Kagoshima with a bus stop, a convenience store and a really good restaurant next to the hotel (although sometimes a taxi is needed to get around). The Hotel also has a neat small store itself with souvenirs and necessities. We would always come back and can only recommend the place.

United StatesIf you want an elegant seaside hotel, with a rooftop Onsen (natural hot sea spring water) with a view of Kagoshima’s best feature, Sakurajima, then this is the hotel for you! One must choose a location between seaside yet still in the city, near Sheraton, yet a quarter of the price, and totally Convenient to mass transit. A taxi ride is the same price, from the train station, $1290¥ so about $10? So reasonable. Cheaper Bus takes 45 min. I think. A hotel with less amenities (no Onsen or furo) on the main strip is closer to mass transit and the tourist information office. A small note, that this hotel Is a bit dated, and the prices certainly overcompensate for it. Everything worked and that’s what matters, especially if we want a sustainable earth. No reason to update perfectly functioning items. In the morning they bring a fresh hotpot filled with water for you to plug in, since faucet in the bathroom was not high enough to fill the hotpot. I realized it was already filled! More sanitary this way. Royal Sun hotel was a GREAT VALUE!
It was a GREAT VALUE! cost of room was so low! Service with a smile, beyond what words can describe. They genuinely like to help you. I checked in late after seeing the active volcano on Sakurajima- which the Onsen on their top floor has an excellent view of. The young man at the dessert counter was so nice, even though I told him I was only looking. I’m afraid of hotel food. I finally decided to eat there, and he happily showed me to a very comfortable seat!!! I must have looked like a wreck, after a whole day of touring. So kind and thoughtful! They gave me a cup of sencha the finest Japanese tea, with my meal. I was so exhausted I wanted to turn my bowl of rice into “ochazuke” rea and rice. So the young lady brought a cup of bancha, a roasted brown tea. Alt first I was surprised to see the switch. So acted embarrassed, and apologized, then ran to get another cup of he original high quality green tea. Then it dawned on me, that different teas are for different dishes! This is the ultimate! She brought another cup of sencha, even though I was wrong, she took full responsibility and gave me what I really didn’t deserve. They just want to please. “The customer is always right” philosophy. So different from the hotel in Nagasaki I just came from poor training at Candeo hotel.

GermanyThe room seemed a bit old but honestly everything else was so great that I did not mind. My fridge was unplugged,so my food was not eat able the next day. Maybe take care to check it.
It was my greatest stay during my 4weeks of travel. The breakfast was exceptional with lots of vegan options (they even had a fruit bar). It could be improved by added information which cooked items are vegetarian since fish is not an allergen. The onsen facilities were so great,I wish I could have stayed another night!
