The room we booked we believed we were being served dinner and breakfast in our room, however the meals were actually served in the public area, which was fine, but not what we expected from booking the photos. It is a lot to spend per night, however it was worth experiencing. It is hard to get to via transport, so I recommend to hire a car for the day. We did it and we are very thankful we thought ahead.

The dinner was the highlight for me. It was everything I could have imagined. The onsen was also nice. Opened at 6am so I could enjoy 1 onsen at night and 1 in the morning before we finished our 1 night stay. The room was spacious ofcourse.

The private onsen was fantastic. We could regulate temperature and it was very big, overlooking the inner garden. Kaiseki meals were out of this world and such a great food experience. Staff were welcoming and very kind to us. We were treated like royalties and this was an absolute highlight of our honeymoon. Thank you!

The most hospitable staff of any hotel I've ever been to. The room was surprisingly large and beautiful. We stayed in a room with the open aire bath. Everything about the stay was really peaceful. I wish we had another day. Dinner and breakfast exceeded my expectations. My partner told the staff about his selfish allergy, and they made adjustments to the menu for him.

The highlight of my 10 day trip! A little bit of a trek to get up to the property by bus, especially if the bus is crowded and you have luggage and/or some sensitivity to winding roads. The staff were so enthusiastic and kind and explained the property and room. Lots of amenities and drinks provided and unique seating areas to relax. The bed and pajamas were so comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and showcased traditional Japanese cuisine in the best way. Such a lovely experience, I’m so glad I picked this one!

we love everything about the hotel - from the time we stepped into the hotel till check out. friendly and attentive staff who speak good english; nice, clean and comfortable hotel room; served very delicious breakfast and dinner with free flow of drinks, best of all is the private onsen bath in our room. we should have stayed for at least 2 nights. thank you Matsuzakaya Honten hotel for making our stay such a memorable one ❤️

This isn't just a place to stay. It is an entire experience. My husband and I came to stay for one night and felt like royalty. The staff were welcoming, the food was top teir and overall felt like we were surrounded by authentic Japanese culture. I will forever recommend this as a must stay for anyone traveling to Japan.

This is very much the ryokan ideal - beautiful and calm setting in a traditional spot that’s been open for 350+ years. The place is immaculate and everyone who worked there was so kind. The room was well appointed and spacious with an amazing view of the tranquil garden and a private hot tub on the deck. What more can you ask? Truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Unfortunately there is no milk for breakfast. The lounge area only offers hot milk to go with the coffee.

Breakfast is on the favorite, there is a lot of food, but not everyone likes traditional Japanese food. Rooms are a bit cold, but this is solved with warm socks, kotatsu and a blanket

Polite staff, very nice in and around the hotel itself, large rooms, some have onsen right inside. Breakfast and dinner included. Dinner was excellent! Enjoyed the complimentary drinks including wine and sake.
