Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe never had any sense of who the staff were during our stay. At times there was nobody around managing or watching the guesthouse which we find quite astonishing due to the fact there is no lock on either the front entrance or the bedroom door. We never felt truly comfortable leaving all our belongings in the room. We would suggest offering a padlock on the bedroom door for guests to use. Facilties are not set up for the amount of guests. One bathroom and toilet is not enough. A lot of time is spent waiting for them to be available during peak times. The locks on both doors are also faulty and need fixing as it causes guests to need to slam the doors shut, which causes noise throughout the house due to thin walls.
Although the room was small it was nice and comfortable. The futon beds were comfortable and we slept well on them. Perfect location for exploring Kanazawa. The early check-in was helpful upon arrival.

GermanyI booked a private room, but I realised it was in fact a separated part of the men dorm, very small and with not even a chair to put my stuff on. In order to go out I had to go through the men dorm. For one night not a huge problem but I had stayed in another guest house before and there I had a huge "real" single bedroom with private entrance, a huge difference.
near the tea houses district, quiet location, good communication with the host

United KingdomWe booked a private room, but it didn’t feel all that private. The walls are literally paper thin. You could hear people type on their keyboard in the common room next door as if you were in the same room. The door doesn’t lock either, although we felt very safe so it wasn’t much of a problem for us. The cupboard in the room was full of sheets and towels so there was nowhere to put our bags. Also the kitchen was tiny and ill equipped for making anything more than instant ramen so don’t expect to save money by not going to restaurants. We would recommend to book a dorm there, the private room did not feel good value.
The location is great, very close to the Geisha district in a cute neighbourhood. Staff were very friendly and the common area was peaceful.

United KingdomCommunal space to chill was small, and the staff were sitting in the space all night so nowhere to relax other than in bed. Bedroom was filled with stuff, I’m guessing long term guests, but felt a bit cramped
Lovely spot great location. Cute guesthouse, clean bathroom & toilet. Space to make food if you want

SpainI arrived with another guest by 12:30pm and there was nobody in the house to check us in. I felt a bit like trespassing as the door was opened so I just went in and left my stuff. The beds didn’t have individual plugs so if you happen to get the upper bunk bed then you might not be able to charge and keep your devices close to you (unless your charger has a really long cable). There’s just 1 bathroom in all the house.
It’s a traditional guesthouse and it’s located at walking distance of the main attractions. Quite a walk though (25’-30’). Bed was hard yet comfy enough for me. If you happen to go in a group and can rent all the beds in the room it might be fine. Otherwise I’d just recommend to stay not more than 1 night. The private room was located just next to our dorm so absolutely no soundproof at all. Still you get what you pay for so it ain’t bad.

FinlandWe were expecting to be greeted upon check-in, but the staff member working that day had instead decided to leave for the town festival and did not answer the phone despite numerous attempts to reach her. We had even communicated in advance the approximate time of our arrival so having no one tell us which room was ours or where to put our stuff was quite annoying after a long trip to get there. The owner/keeper who greeted us in the evening after we got back from sightseeing was a really nice man and kindly showed us the ropes of the place.
The private room is spacious and was cool even during a very hot day, and is conveniently located right by the toilet and bathroom. The futons in the room were really comfortable and we slept great. But make sure to bring earplugs, because the walls are literally paper so you can hear everything from the adjacent living room and hallway . Also remember to bring your own towel as the place does not offer this. The guest house is quite a walk from the main station, but bus stops (also ones for JR Buses covered by the JR Pass, or for the loop line) are close. The Kenrokuen garden is also at a walking distance.

SloveniaYou cannot call it a "private room" when I can hear people whisper. There is even a huge hole on top for the air conditioner that is for 2 separate rooms. Also, there was no lock on our "private room's door". It is basically a hostel and a bad one. You can hear everyone from everywhere. Toilet and bathroom are shared between 15 guests and hotel staff. Sink at the toilet is not working, so, if someone is using the bathroom then good luck washing your hands. I couldn't get running hot water either.
Nothing to like except the location.
