Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesHallway carpeting was old and worn. Bathroom had no electrical outlet.
A complete Japanese breakfast was a real treat, served at our table, not a buffet. Room window looked out on Mt. Fuji. Good location, on the Red-Line sight seeing bus route, stop 7, and not far from the train station.

United StatesLike I said the hotel needs some updating, paint, carpets, etc. Also the upstairs bar area could be better.
Although the hotel needs some updating, our experience here was wonderful. Quiet, clean, good location, great breakfast, beautiful onsen. The staff was A-1! 2Next time we would stay longer

AustraliaThe hotel is a ryokan, allowing you to have a traditional Japanese experience. We had a lovely tatami room with a view of the lake, and finished our stay with a massive Japanese breakfast in the dining room. We didnt find time to use the public baths with the Fuji views. There is also an observatory room with a view of Fuji. The staff were helpful and super polite. The surrounds are so peacefully quiet. Our room here was probaby as big as 3 of our other hotel rooms combined!

United KingdomLike other reviews said - very dated, could do with a big refurb. You can see it in the ancient stained communal corridor carpets. We didn't find our room to be dirty at all, though, and it was in a timeless Japanese traditional style. Onsen bath was small but also clean.
Staff are so nice! Upgraded us (for free) to a better room with a lake view. Helped me with printing off some forms I needed to complete for a very small charge. In the morning they provide a free shuttle bus to the station leaving every 30 mins until 10am. Location is right on the lake and 10-15 mins walk from the train station.

AustraliaLoved the setting and views of the lake. It was very peaceful and the onsen was great especially with the view of Mt Fuji, which we walked and loved, definitely a must do from this place. The reception was warm and friendly and we had great assistance on places to visit. The breakfast was amazing. Another must do is rent a swan boat and paddle about the lake, where you will find the best view of Mt Fuji. It was great exercise and got us pumped for the walk up Fuji which was on the same day. The free after breakfast coffee service in the lobby was the best, with a superb brew served in white china coffee cups over looking the lake and beautiful garden.

BulgariaEverything is very old and worn out. Most of the places are clean, but not so much, especially minding that Japan is a really clean place. The windows were extremely dirty, the ceiling had an old unrepaired leak. This place needs a full renovation. It is not what you expect for the price.
The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful people, they have a free shuttle to the station. Spacious room where you can have a nice dinner.

United KingdomThe weather was poor (to no fault of the hotel of course), which torpedoed our plans for an ascent to Mount Fuji. To our surprise, the toilet in our room did not have any of the fancy features that Japanese toilets usually have. The hotel is quite old and some of the facilities do show it.
Great location, perfectly located for those planning an ascent to Mount Fuji: walking distance from Kawaguchiko station and the bus to the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station. Amazing views of Kawaguchiko lake and Mount Fuji (especially from the onsen and the rooftop observatory). To top it off, very friendly staff, good vibe in the hotel and a sumptuous yet reasonably priced breakfast. A touch of history as well, with period pictures and tableware from the notable visit of Emperor Hirohito back in 1957.

United KingdomThe building was a bit old and tired looking. It was also so hot in the corridors and in the lounge where we had coffee. The AC in our room worked but was not very strong, although I didn't mind too much. However, the communal areas of the building were really warm.
Excellent view of Fuji and good location in Kawaguchiko. Staff were lovely and very accommodating and it was good to have a shuttle bus from the station. The breakfast was great.

PortugalThe hotel is quiet old and tired but we felt well there and it wasn’t too much of a problem.
Old traditional hotel with beautiful views of Lake Kawaguchi and (from the Onsen on the top floor) a great view of Mount Fuji. We slept in a large traditional Japanese bedroom with tatami flooring. The area is nice and quiet, we could rent bicycles from a nearby store to visit the area before climbing Mount Fuji.

United StatesThe facility is a bit distant from the station and restaurants etc. This is not a problem for young folks who can walk, but a bit difficult for those with mobility challenges. Transportation by bus is available but not convenient.
The room was comfortable and clean and entirely adequate for our needs. The facility is a bit "aged" but well kept. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall impression was good. I would recommend this to other travelers not in need of extreme luxury.

United StatesIt is a little ways out, so bring a snack and some instant coffee if you're an early riser!
This was one of the loveliest ryokans of our stay. It's older but comfortable, clean, and with a very nice staff. The breakfast itself is worth the stay. They have a shuttle, but the walk from the train station is not bad either. It's not very close to restaurants--a few minutes walk--so plan ahead. And be sure to check out the fantastic bar in town, OarBlue.

United StatesThe bathroom and the hallways were a bit dated. I didn't mind because I was spending most of my time in my room, onsen, and outside the apt.
I enjoyed the hotel. It was right on the water and my room had a view over looking the lake. I enjoyed the onsen on the top floor. I was able to see Mt. Fuji from it and it was very relaxing. The staff were very nice and it was great they provided transportation to the bus station. I loved the room. It was very relaxing and traditional. The futon was very comfortable.

United StatesThis is an old hotel and the western room is in need of an update. I enjoy historic properties so I was happy to stay here for the experience. The room and bathroom are small but the bed was comfortable. The Japanese rooms with lake views looked more spacious. The air conditioning was very good and so was the Wi-Fi.
All the members of the staff were very helpful. We were picked up at the bus station and returned there after our stay. The lobby is very pleasant with wonderful lake views and complimentary coffee in the morning. The Japanese breakfast was beautifully served and was the best we had in Japan. Wonderful service and again beautiful lake views from the dining area. The hotel is convenient to the town and it is nice to take the path around the lake which is convenient to the hotel. We were happy we chose this hotel because of the wonderful location and the nice courteous staff. Wi-Fi and Air Conditioning was great. We had a partial view of Mount Fuji from our window.
