Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesIt can’t be helped but there are stink bugs that are in the area of the town. They dont bother you and you can get rid of them or ask staff to get them if they wind up in your room.
Breakfast and dinner were wonderful and very filling. The private onsen were very relaxing and clean we really enjoyed our experience.

New ZealandWe had an exceptional stay, and it was a highlight of our trip. Please see summary below: Location: Excellent. About a 6 minute walk from the KinosakiOnsen Station and close to the stream that runs through the town. Room: This is one of the most luxurious rooms we've stayed at and the best we would find in Kinosaki. It is as shown in the photos and has an attached private bathroom in addition to the tub. The room was spacious and clean. I am not sure if the water in the tub is spring water but we spent most of the time bathing in the private and public onsen. Check in was at 3pm. Private Onsen: There are one of two options to pick from at no extra cost, the micro bubble room and traditional room. Both are nice and clean. We decided to also pay to reserve a second private onsen for 45 minutes. In addition, there are male and female public baths at the Inn - depending on the time, you might be the only person in them. Public Onsen: Like all Ryokan in the area, you are given a pass that allows you access to all the public Onsen in the town. Yukata: We were given yukata in standard white and blue/black colours at no extra cost and also had the opportunity to pick a colourful Yukata from their selection. Meals: We are vegetarian and Tsubakino was very accomodating. We were served a set meal for dinner and breakfast - again, this was the nicest Japanese food we had during our trip. I have added a photo of the breakfast with this review, the dinner was much more elaborate and spanned multiple courses. Service: The service was excellent. We had forgotten some clothes in the closet, and the Inn promptly delivered it to our next hotel in Kyoto.

PolandDinner blew my mind. I did not expect such a quality. I was also surprised by free extra bath at the day of arrival. The staff is super nice and made their best to explain the onsen rules. I wish I could stay longer. It is a must-go place especially on a first trip to Japan.

AustraliaThe only thing I didn't like, and it's not something that would bother a lot of people, was the fluorescent lighting in the dining room and in our room. In our room there were other lighting options but they were much much dimmer, making it difficult to find a comfortable light for reading.
We only stayed one night in Ryokan Tsubakino, I wish we had stayed another! Breakfast and dinner were lovely, and something I'll always remember. Dinner was kaiseki style and included sushi, miso, seafood and wagyu. I feel very lucky to have been there during crab season. The room was spacious and included a private toilet and sink, and space for clothing. The futons were so comfortable. It's certainly far more firm that a mattress and not for every body but my body loved it and I'm seriously considering getting rid of my bed and trading it in for a futon!! One private bath per booking is available for guests. I chose the cedar outdoor bath, and it was lovely, relaxing and HOT. In the morning I used the shared bath facilities which were clean and well maintained. Location was a short walk from the station, not hard to do with luggage. The Ryokan is very close to one of the public bath houses, and an easy walk to the others. The staff were generous and accommodating and helped us with our heavy luggage.

United StatesThe rooms and facilities are exquisite. Top of the end hotel feel and amazing service. We adored our room and felt like it was the most elegant space weve ever been in. The art is also phenomenal! The meals felt very classic Japanese. I would have preferred to experience a restaurant in town instead especially since we were placed in a room with two coughing, sick individuals for both meals :(. We loved all the staff and are so appreciative to them!

SingaporeOur room was very fancy, unfortunately have stink bugs coming into the room or around the room somehow. although these bugs are harmless, but sometimes can get a bit surprised when finding them around in the room. The hotel puts up notices in the room to let us understand about the situation and what to do when we spot them, so i guess all is good.
Ryokan Tsubakino location is almost central towards the Kinosaki Onsen district but yet still hidden in the quiet side of the whole town area, which made it a perfect location to stay. With its central point, walking to the town's famous onsens are manageable. Food provided by the hotel, Breakfast and Dinner Kaiseki Menu were superb and very fresh as well, thoroughly replenished our day.

FranceShops close at 4:30pm, so luckily we had booked dinner at the ryonkan no mixed bath About kinosaki itself, it's nothing compared to the huge outdoor natural hot springs I went to in my last trip near Nagano (where they also had mixed bath) so i was a bit disappointing about that, but still it was the best compromise I could get about location and tattoo problem
Honestly I liked everything the place was great, the staff was awesome and could speak english, the food was tasty and plentiful, the room was amazing It was the first leg of our trip and we wanted to start in style... was not disappointed We chose kinosaki mainly because we were visiting Kyoto and were looking for outdoor tattoo friendly onsen the private onsen at the ryonkan is big enough for couple bath

AustraliaWished I stayed an extra night. No "views" outside their windows. Not much variety in Yukata that is provided, but did the job.
Beautiful spaces within the hotel. Close to the train station, less than a 10 minute walk up the road. Provided yukata, shoes, towels and scrubs for onsen hopping. Had a room with it's own toilet, which is great. Dinner and breakfast were an exceptional experience, with a great presentation. Polite, welcoming servers. Guests (groups) are seated at their own reserved table thus maintaining a personalised experience for your group. In general, staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Even the check-in and check-out procedures were formal yet handled delicately, which felt luxurious.

Our room, room 102, was wonderful. Tradiionally Japanese but with a comfortable bed and a gorgeous modern bathroom. The staff at this hotel is stellar. When I had to miss dinner one night due to a head cold, they brought me a deliiouus bowl of hot udon soup. I did not request it -- they just showed up. So kind and thoughtful.

United StatesWe stay in a suite with refurbished bathroom and private tub. The new modern design bathroom floor is quite cold and needs more hangers/shelves for towels. Also usually the room noted with private tub in onsen hotel will be filled with hotspring water but this one is not so we end up not using that. Maybe book a standard room will be good enough. Onsens are located on 2nd and 3rd floor so might not be ADA friendly.
Location is in the center of the town so easy walk to all places. Front desk staff is friendly .Dinner with seasonal crabs is tasty though we are being seated in a very awkward location directly face the entrance when there are still plenty of empty seating. The owner’s paintings demonstrated in the hotel is a nice addition. Also family onsen is available to use free of charge.
