There are quite some stain (maybe from the minerals?!) inside the onsen area which appeared dirty.

Rooms are great. We got the rooms with open air bath which was superb. Love the buffet dinner and breakfast although there was time limit for the dinner. Food comes with great variety and good taste. Public onsen is huge and offer wide range of bath to choose. We enjoy the outdoor bath and the mud shower most.

The walls are very thin, so it was difficult to sleep with a neighbour that was laughing loudly late at night. Also the toilet is very dated and waterproofing is starting to fail, as our bathtub leaked onto the floor when it was draining. It has the vibe of a budget hotel but the price of a luxury one, so that is not so good.

The onsen was very comfortable and the included dinner & breakfast were satisfying. The view was good from the Japanese style room, and the indoor temperature was comfortable.

A specific receptionist wasn't kind and a bit rude at our check-in. The hallway to 'Bekkan' hot spring was dark and scary, plus the hot spring itself wasn't so special. We didn't think it's worth to go.

We had a good stay with amazing local tastes and big hot springs. The staff were kind and friendly.

Our bathroom was tiny and grubby. The aluminium window frames let in the noise of the onsen equipment all night and the large gap under the door let in people noise early in the morning. Deposits from the volcanic water and acidic air are bound to damage things like taps but these were very old and could have been replaced, rust and rusty stains are everywhere. Leaks in the ceilings, even the lift ceiling! The margins of the carpets are dirty, better vacuum cleaners are needed. The private onsen was a real mess. Deposits but also grubby covers on fans and bare plasterboard in places.

Great buffet held in 2 very busy sittings. Plenty of super seafood and veg plus some Western options. The beds were comfortable with nice bedding and there was plenty of extremely hot water. We were provided with dressing gowns and slippers. The staff were super kind and helpful. Buses up to the Ebino Plateau enabled us to undertake some truly stunning walks on the volcanoes.

Some of the hot steam sources in front of the hotel are a bit noisy, in particular when the window is open.

Good starting point for excursions. Room was nothing special, but had all things I needed. As typical in Japan, a little outdated. I very much liked the outdoor onsen (Ryotenburo). It was a few steps to walks, but quite enjoyable. Buffet dinner was one of the better ones in Japan.
