Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanThe carpet was sticky, the beds were super hard and the accommodations on the whole were quite dated.
The onsen was 10/10. Absolutely amazing and would have given a much lower score if not for the onsen. If I could go above 10/10, I would. Put differently, I would travel an hour or more to go to these onsen. Additionally, the staff were amazing.

United StatesI can't think of anything bad. I suppose an earlier breakfast before 7:30 or to go smaller item might have been ideal to get out hiking. We could have beat the rain. But that's not a real complaint just a nice things For people who like new and shiny they might not appreciate this place as it's a little classic but I liked that.
Friendly helpful staff who used translation app to make sure we could understand 24 hour baths so when I woke up in the middle of the night I could go down and soak for awhile. Beautiful breakfast. Private baths so you could use alone or with your family Rooms are clean, facilities and baths are clean. Easy parking.

SingaporeHowever, room was very small for three people. Bed futon thin.
Outdoor onsen next to car park so it was necessary to walk out in the cold (1 minute) before getting to a bath. But by gosh the onsen water was hot! After our bath we were so toasty and warm we could have walked around in our yukata for ages! Fantastic location of hotel as next to Lawson and main info area. Good kaiseki breakfast served by genuinely warm and lovely obasan. Friendly. Just opposite a great bbq beef restaurant.

FinlandSome of the quests had supper at the hotel, but when we asked about having food in the hotel (beside breakfast), we were directed to nearby restaurants. We would have liked to have supper at the hotel, but due to the language barrier, the matter was unsolved. Maybe dinner should have been ordered in advance in connection with the hotel reservation? However, there was no mention about this on the Booking.com. Well, after all that wasn't a big problem – there was a couple of good restaurants in the neighbourhood. Also the mattress was quite hard for our taste.
The hotel has 5 private onsens, 3 outside and 2 inside. We tried all of the outside ones and there are amazing! Also the staff is lovely. Even with a language barrier they were nice, considerate and caring beyond our expectations. The room was good sized and clean. This is a place to relax and enjoy the nature, peace and quiet.

United KingdomNot having our own bathroom was initially a surprise, but we coped fine with using the onsen for this.
Staff here were friendly and helpful. Parking was handy and we were able to check in slightly early. Breakfast was requested early at 7am and they accommodated this for us. Outdoor onsen was nice with cool night air to balance the hot water. Private access was also appreciated compared to most onsen which are public only. Dinner was not provided however we had a good wagyu beef dinner (yakinuku) across the road. Pricing was reasonable at £118 B&B.

JapanThe beds were a little uncomfortable, but fine for one night. The rooms were extremely clean, but quite basic and you could still smell the strong sulfuric onsen scent even our room.
Great outdoor private onsens and really friendly and helpful staff. Our room had a nice view of the hillside, which was very peaceful.

TaiwanIt will be even better if there is a hotel shuttle bus to take the travelers from the nearby train stations because the bus schedule is not that frequent.
The staff is polite, friendly and willing to help you with any questions. There are three outdoor hot springs and one indoor hot springs that you can reserve for your private use. The Japanese style bedroom makes you feel like immersing in the local culture. Full Japanese breakfast is also fantastic.

United StatesInside the hotel, there are 2 indoor hotspring baths which we did not visit. There are 3 outdoor (the sky is visible) hotspring baths with full privacy, they require a 30 seconds' walk from the hotel building. Wear the hotel yukata to the onsens, it would be fun. But if the yukata drags under your heels, you could trip and fall. The hotel interior smells strongly of sulfur from the baths inside the building. The outdoor baths smell the same, naturally. The mattresses are of very low quality - you can feel the spring coils and the frame has no strength - I almost felt out of the bed a few times. Only 1 pillow filled with buckwheat husks is provided. One bath towel per person is issued for our 2-night stay (no exchange); it is of duel use - one uses it at the hotspring bath as well as the hotel room. There is neither shampoo nor bodywash in the bathroom of the guest room. The property is clean but a bit dated. Surprisely, no bidet is installed. The room is small, very small, and the bathroom is tight. There is only 1 hook in the bathroom to hang the bath towel. The hanging location of the second towel requires some creative thinking. The hotel does have wi-fi but it is slow, one cannot do work with it. Often I got kicked out temporarily and it would not reconnect automatically.
The outdoor hotspring baths are awesome. There is a shower inside the bath hut with a good quality trio - body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. For added touch, there is even a landline phone and a nice overhead fan. The baths are clean, the ambience is terrific, as is the water temperature. Unfortunately one could not stay too long because if the hot water does not make you dizzy, the stringent smell of sulfur will. Within walking distances, there are several mom-n-pop restaurants and convenient stores. We walked 4 km. downhill to explore and took the bus back so we did not have to walk back uphill. The temperature in Kagoshima was a muggy 34 C the day before (27-8-2023), but up in the mountain at Kirishima it was a cool 26 C with minimal humidity. A beautiful waterfall (called Maruo Falls - 丸尾の滝.) is only 6-8 minutes' walk from the hotel. At the waterfall, you even get a beautiful view of the valley below and a nice bridge afar. There is a super extra large (roughly 60 cm x 30 cm) safety box in the room, big enough for a large laptop computer. It does not operately electronically though. Rather, you insert a 100-yen coin to a slot to release the key. Whether it returns the coin (like at Aldi Supermarkets) when you insert the key to retrieve your items I do not know. I hope it does, otherwise the costs would add up if you deposit and retrieve multiple times a day.

JapanThe staff at Miyama hotel were incredibly hospitable from the very beginning - e.g., recommending us a larger room (free of charge) due to the number of bags we had with us. The onsen facilities were superb - in total 5 onsen to choose from, 3 located outdoor and 2 indoor. All the onsen are private and you have to take the key from reception to use each one. We did not have breakfast/dinner at the hotel, however the location is just perfect. It’s ideally situated next to gift stores, restaurants, and sites. Definitely recommend!
