Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomSome access to drinking water and tea in the evening apart from the vending machine would be great, but it was not critical for us.
Wonderful place and people! Everything was great. Arrived at peak sakura blossom and it was among the best places to see it on our trip. Staff recommendations about our walking routes and public baths were also very helpful. English language level of main staff members was high (the best we've met in Japan so far), so it made communication very easy. Adjusted breakfast for our needs and it was excellent both in terms of taste and experience. Will definitely come back again.

United StatesThere are too many good things to say about Kobayashiya. The staff was very welcoming and helpful - they even helped us when we couldn't figure out our yukatas. Our room was spacious and comfortable - but the best part is that it had a small porch overlooking the street/canal area where everyone was walking to and from the onsens. We only stayed for one night, but we wish we could have stayed here for 2 or 3 nights.

PhilippinesThey forgot to tell us that there is a Kinosaki Onsen bus for guests staying at the Ryokan so we had to lug our bags around town upon arrival from the train station . They didn’t respond when we asked if there is a hotel shuttle or pick up when we inquired. Another thing. There were harmless stink bugs on the 1st night but when I brought it to the owners attention. The problem was solved.
I loved that Kobayashiya was comfortably stylish , historical , a ryokan for 11 generations, newly restored with modcons, well designed and traditional at the same time. Another plus, its centrally located. The staff was very courteous and the food was superb. Great attention to detail. Beautiful library! And great music. The owners were there to chat with us and gave us tips. It made our stay in Kinosaki Onsen extra special!

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, including catering for us being vegetarian. The ryokan and room were stunning and the private onsen a treat!

AustraliaThis is us being super gritty - only one small rubbish bin available in our Ryokan room. Literally nothing else we could point out that wasnt par. Possibly the best ryokan and omotenashi experience.
Everything - staff and team members at Kobayashiya are excellent and really champions the fame Japanese omotenashi in its core.

United KingdomNothing really, except I have a fear of bugs, and we did get surprised by a couple of stink bugs in our room, which we had to capture. They probably entered the room looking for warmth when the staff were airing the room out. So that's something to consider checking for future guests.
Everything! From the moment we walked in, the hospitality, cleanliness, facilities, room - it was all amazing. The highlights were definitely the room with the balcony, which was beautiful. The private onsens were a lovely treat and clean. And the breakfast was the best breakfast I've had this trip. A massive thank you to all the staff for their warm welcome!

SwitzerlandThat we couldn’t stay longer.
Everything is incredible from the moment you step in: the lobby is tastefully decorated, the library has a great selection of books, the private onsen are perfect to wind down, the location is great, the staff is very attentive and friendly and were able to accommodate our requests, the rooms are perfect - retaining the charme of the house while being newly renovated, and the food is probably the best we’ve had during our holiday in Japan. Wow, we loved our stay here!

AustriaAmazing modern Ryokan in the heart of a great onsen town. Everything was newly renovated. There are 3 private onsen that can be used by guests (no booking required, whenever it's open you can use it). The breakfast was outstanding and staff speaks English. There is also a tea ceremony held in the lobby in the morning.

United StatesThe bed was quite firm, like all beds we encountered in Japan. Also, you should note there is not a shower or bath in your room. You are bathing so extensively at all the onsen or in the private onsen in the building, so it's just not necessary. We certainly didn't miss it!
Staying at Kobayashiya was a special experience. The space was beyond beautiful and better than I could have hoped. The staff was so exceptionally helpful and kind. When we struggled with our yukata, they came right up to help us get dressed. We didn't initially opt for their dinner at Cyan when we booked because the menu was crab/seafood heavy and I have an allergy. We figured we'd just wander around and eat somewhere in Kinosaki. But when a cold rainy storm blew in, we scuttled back to Kobayashiya and they graciously seated us at the bar in the dining room where we enjoyed a delicious dinner. It wasn't the big dinner we'd have had if we'd signed up for that when we made the booking, but more than enough food and absolutely wonderful. I wish we had stayed an extra day to really spend more quality time there. Thank you, Kobayashiya!

FranceThe place is amazing but there a lot of traffic until 22h and it's not really soundproof. Meanwhile after 22h it's all good.
The decoration is amazing. The place is central. The service is amazing, the people are the nicest. You can choose between different Yukata at your arrival depending of your personal taste to visit the city... ❤️ There is 3 privates onsen you can juste walk-in and lock for enjoying a nice hot bath. (Even if the city is full of it, The private part is pretty nice)

AustriaNothing - everything was perfect
Very good traditional Japanese hotel (Ryokan). Big, friendly room, we slept in a bed which was comfortable; Very friendly staff who will help you with recommendations of any kind; they are speaking good english; Japanese style breakfast exceptional - you are being served and explained what and also how you could eat it in a good way (we liked that very much); we were also there once for dinner and had the opportunity to have the "great crab" dinner (during crab season) - and this was really something you will remember lifetime; 3 private onsen (thermal baths) which you can use whenever it is free - you lock the door so that you are private; you can take your usual shower in the area in the onsen which is designed for you to get clean before entering the thermal water; do not expect a shower in your private bathroom

The hotel was very well situated in the town. It had beautiful views of the central river and a beautiful Japanese garden at the back of the property. The decor is contemporary Japanese minimalism, with careful attention to detail. Thoughtful touches of the traditional property have been preserved. The pillows and bed were extremely comfortable.
