Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

LuxembourgThe house is named International Guest House but there is nothing international here. The landlords are really kind but they do not speak english. For restaurants recommandation, except the opening hours, the rest is written in Japanese. Not really helpful.
Even though it seems odd at the beginning, the fact to book a 55 min slot for the baths is great. Like this you have all the pleasure to enjoy it by yourself. To note that the shower is only available during the slot booked or in the morning but only during 7h30-9h00 am.

NetherlandsThe beds - Japanese futons - were not so comfortable for us as we are not used to sleep on a thin mattress. The massage chairs available in the corridor helped for our sore backs though 😅.
The hotel is in a beautiful location right by Lake Yamanake. Walking distance to several restaurants and shops. There were free bikes to borrow which we did one morning, to cycle around the lake. The bikes are very small though so if you are over 1,70 m it may be better to rent a larger bike which they had at a rental location about 1 km down the road, for a small fee. There is free coffee and tea downstairs and a small terrace to sit in front, for self-brought food. The couple owning the hotel are lovely and very helpful. The rooms have private toilets and sinks, but the shower and bath are available to book per the hour and are out in the corridor. The showers and bath were clean and very nice.

DenmarkThe beds were a little hard to sleep on as you sleep on the floor. There was no breakfast but there was a fridge in the room so we could store our drinks and food. It was a little far from the conveniece stores. Staff barely speak English, so translators are useful. A little tricky with public transport when off-season (Season appeared to be mid-April to December)
First time in a traditional Ryokan. The room was spacious and there were a heating system under the table and another heater in the room so you weren't cold. The duvets were also good and kept you warm all night. There is a really good Hoto noodle place near by. Nice views of Mt. Fuji in clear weather. And a nice path around the entire lake just outside the accommodation.

United StatesEverything was great :)
It was easy to find and just off the main road but still very peaceful and quiet. Shared spaces were clean and had books, games, and a pool table. The Japanese-style tatami room we stayed in was very spacious, clean, and comfortable and had its own toilet. The shared shower/bath area was very relaxing and has time slots for each room to use so it's private. The hostess/owner was so kind and sweet!

United KingdomThe rooms are cold at night so you need to keep the heating on or you will wake up with a cold (that happened to me unfortunately) even though the futons are really warm. We didn't drive or use car, we came by bus from Tokyo. That was our mistake as the hotel is slightly far from the village and the main bus stop that takes you to Gotemba and Mishima Stations (it took us around 30mins from the Hotel to the bus stop)
The lady and her husband run the whole place by themselves but will happily help you to store your luggage and place it in your room. Free refreshments are just on the dining room with a terrace outside. Incredibly huge rooms with private toilet even though you also have toilets in the corridor just in case you need to use it and the one in your room is occupied! The bath has a booking system by room number and you get to use it for one-hour slot but can use the shower in the morning from 7.30 until 9am which is also great as they will be cleaning later on. Exceptionally clean facilities!

United KingdomWe struggled getting the free wifi to work effectively, but otherwise all was good. Was a little cold at night/in the early mornings, but it was winter and location is approx 1000m above sea level, so nothing untoward.
Location is ideal for visit to Mt Fuji/Lake Yamanako area. Plenty of restaurants within a km or two as well. Room was comfortable, onsen very good too. Hosts very friendly and helpful.

GermanyNot too easy to get there by public transport. In case you come by bus, get off at Yamanakako-murayakuba-mae (Station #143). From there it is a 1min walk.
The host was just lovely. Rooms are great and very comfortable. The house is not in the busiest area, which is no issue because of the free bikes you can use. Plenty of restaurants easily reachable and the lake is just across the street. You can use the private Onsen in the house, which is super nice!

Hong KongThis place located at yamanakako is quiet and cozy where provides a traditional Japanese style room. there is only a public bathing area but the host will arrange a special timeslot for guests to enjoy bathing themselves, so you don’t need to be afraid of bathing/shower with others or worrying about the tattoo. Me and my boyfriend are the only guests on that day so we can use the entire space! the host is very friendly!! There are also free rent bicycles provided.

United StatesThe only real issue was the air conditioning. Japan doesn't have much central heat and air, and the room was very stuffy upon entering. We didn't get the AC to work right ourselves, but once we asked how to do it, the lady helped and the room got much better. She even let us borrow a fan for the room. So, although it was a "dislike" at first, the help from her made it a wonderful experience overall!
The owners were absolutely amazing! Any time there was a question or concern, they were very eager to help and make sure things got taken care of. They even helped us get food, since the nearest restaurant was a bit far to walk and we haven't ridden bikes in so long she was worried about us. Her willingness to make us as comfortable as possible was very much appreciated. The room was spacious and the pictures online were accurate. The Japanese bath was beautiful and so relaxing. I would definitely stay here again, if ever near the area again.
