We recommend that you arrive early, take some time to explore the town, then spend from check-in until check-out enjoying the charms of Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu. If the management and staff at Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu happens to read this review, please consider dimming the lights in the "Tsuki no Yu" or "Moon Bath" so guests will be able to see the stars above at night. Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu is very thoughtfully and beautifully designed with outstanding public spaces, providing a peaceful and calming Zen-like atmosphere for guests to enjoy. The multiple onsen baths available throughout the property include unique and clever design touches and features to make your onsen bathing all the more special. Our breakfast and dinner was served by a gracious host in a private dining room. Kudos to the chef for the kaiseki dinner and lovely presentation on fine Japanese stoneware and porcelain dishes. The scallop mousse as well as all of the other dishes that night were wonderful! We stayed in "Treehouse Konomi" which had a private Hinoki (cedar wood) rotenburo (open-air) bath just outside of our door and down the staircase. We also loved visiting the unique and rustic "Meoto Tachiyu" bath which is a private bath available to guests on a shared basis.

Beautiful Japanese ryokan with amazing Onsen hot springs. The staff presented us with incredible hospitality, a true ryokan experience. The room was large, clean and very comfortable. The included dinner and breakfast were unique and excellent, mainly consisting of traditional local cuisine that enhanced our overall express. One of the best highlights of our Japan trip!

Dinner was OK but not great. Breakfast was inedible for us (only traditional Japanese food). So it’s something to take into consideration if you don’t want to eat only traditional Japanese food.

The place is magical, beautiful property, staff were very nice. A great traditional atmosphere. The private onsen was amazing. The room is beautiful and gives a special vibe.

Nothing everything was really nice. The personnel is perhaps a little bit too “formal” apologizing a lot but it is part of the Japanese culture.

A really great ryokan, the strong point was definitely the onsen ! 2 indoors baths, 2 outdoors baths non mix and 5 different private outdoor baths that you can “book” easily (just need to take the key if the bath is available)

What an amazing place! The gardens are beautiful and the Onsens are so relaxing. In particular the outdoor Onsen is stunning. The rooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and very quiet. The meals are out of this world, so fresh, authentic Japanese and so beautifully prepared.

Accommodation with in-room onsen was superb. Meals were exceptional. Staff were very attentive. The ryokan onsen really felt like a traditional Japanese inn with comfortable modern ammenities. There were nooks and corners around the ryokan to sit and relax and laze around.

Rustic setting with some luxurious touches. The setting is exceptional and so tranquil. Loved all the different onsens, in the end we didn’t feel the need to visit any others. Great food too and flexible with dietary requirements. Room had a private bathroom

Warm lighting, a little dark in the guest room. Outdoor hot spring without shower tape, the guest room no bathroom, we used the indoor hot spring bathroom.

A historical place and architecture, outdoor hot spring were wonderful, like the natual environment. Large proportion of set dinner and breakfast, delicious food. Room size were large and comfortabel. Staff were very nice and helpful. The man who take care of enviormenmtal cleaning, he was assisted me for car parking, highly appreciated.

The foothpaths are very bumpy and a little difficult to walk in or carry luggage. Be careful if traveling with elderly or those mobility issues.

The food was excellent, except for the same food for our 2 day stay, not that i can say anything bad on any of it. Although, we were able to order basashi and cake for the second night. Will definitely stay here again when we go back to kurokawa onsen.

The place is quite magical, with all its little nooks to explore. The private onsens, there are 5, as well as the public baths are all very charming and peaceful. And to top it all the staff are so wonderful and very professional.

It is a bit hard to get to from abroad - two hours by bus from Fukuoka- but worth it!

So green and beautiful and healing, like a magical hot spring treehouse tucked in a tiny mountain town. Exquisite food, soothing springs, lots of cozy nooks for lounging and resting all around the inn.
