A beautifully-renovated traditional Japanese home located conveniently near Nijo castle! The neighborhood is peaceful, the rooms and beds are comfortable, and the hosts are incredibly helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend staying here!

Beautifully renovated traditional Japanese machiya. All equipment and facilities were new and top notch. The owners are a lovely couple who love to make their guests and their stay as comfortable as possible! Had a great time here and in Kyoto.

Toni the host was the the most friendly and cool dude I've met on my hostel adventures, he was great just to chat to but super helpful with advice and help with info about kyoto! The area is quiet which is nice and also close to everything you need.

Be aware that busses stop around 11:30 and metro around 12:00 pm, taxis from the center costs around 2200 yen to the place. Otherwise it's a hour long walk :p

A perfect place for a Kyoto visit if you don't want to be around the tourist masses. The place is newly renovated and just thought out well, longest sleeps I had in Amy of my accommodations so far. The host (Tony) is a really nice guy with a lot of knowledge about the area and loves to talk and give recommendations.

Nothing not to like.

Nicely renovated japanese house in the old part of town, about 10 minutes from the imperial palace. Toni and his wife are lovely hosts, it felt like we were guests in their home. The shared facilities are clean and good. We stayed in a smart room were everything was connected, very convenient! Warmly recommend.

Perfection does not exist, but this place comes very close to it. The quality of the details, the exquisite treatment of the staff, and the cosiness of the accommodation are undoubtedly the ingredients for a stay that will not go unnoticed. I don't think there is a more special place to stay in Kyoto than this one.

The perfect stay! The place is wonderful and looks as a typical Japanese house. The owners are incredibly kind, they welcomed me in the best way ever, explaining me everything about the stay and giving me tips about the city of Kyoto. They can speak many languages as Japanese, English, Italian, Spanish and probably more so the communication wouldn’t be a problem for you. The hotel is located in a very quite are of the city just outside the city-center so perfect to sleep in a white place but also well connected with the touristic areas with buses. The common area is just amazing, about cleaning is perfect and the structure is very technological! If I’ll be back to Kyoto, sure I’ll stay here again, I recommend 100%. The bathrooms are quite cold since there is no heating. It’s better after the shower but still somewhat cold.

The beds were very comfy and it was quite in the room. The common area was quite nice as well. The Property had everything needed!

Everything was exceptionally clean, both hosts were super nice and gave me tips about the city, where to go and what to do. It was very quiet at night, even in the shared rooms. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can only recommend staying here. Even the bus stop is just a few minutes away, from where you can reach all of Kyoto!

Actually nothing. I only can assume that some travelers might not like the simplicity of the house and bathrooms, but for us it was totally ok and made us feel at someones home.

Overall the stay at Kokonoe Machiya was fantastic! We really loved the warm atmosphere that the host provided, she was always open for questions and we were very positively surprised about the tasty and local meals she cooked for us in the morning and evening. Even though the house is very simple, everything was clean and the beds comfortable. It was as well a great spot to meet other travelers since we all ate together. Outside the host set up cosy chairs and lights to enjoy the evening sky.

The people i've met in Kokonoe Machiya. It's simply a place where you get the experience to meet new people and peer into their lives, given the chance. I've been lucky to meet Emily, Blanca, Eze, Sato-san, Chen and especially Tony, I won't ever forget this experience i've had during my stay. I've made a lot of good memories here, and I'll be visiting again for sure during my next stay in Kyoto ! I wish Tony, his wife, and everyone else i met here the best that I can wish for in life, and I look forward to meeting you guys again, hopefully soon !

The Machiya, the traditional guesthouse, and the hosts were absolutely amazing. The bad was so comfy and the breakfast delicious. Tony and Imiko had given me such a warm welcome and great advice for sure! I really enjoyed my stay here! ☺️

Toni was an excellent host - welcoming, approachable and knowledgeable about Kyoto's history, places of interest and restaurants. The hostel was so beautifully furnished and designed in a traditional Japanese style, which will feature well in anyone's social media post. Facilities were clean and well maintained. Certainly, this place is up there to be the best accommodation that I have stayed in.
