Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MexicoThe pillows were a little to hard for our liking but over all there wasn’t much to complain about.
Very good breakfast, very filling. The place was clean, and the yukata/kimono was lovely. A very beautiful and relaxing place.

United StatesI enjoyed most things but I didn’t LOVE the lack of amenities. Compared to hotels there’s more things but compared to another onsen I went, it was lacking. It has a face wash, moisturizer, and toner which is great but I think I was looking for more. Definitely something that WONT stop me from coming back!
I loved the onsen! For some reason there was not many people in any time that I went. For reference, i went at 4pm (when it opened), 9pm, and 8:15 am (they close it at 9am). I was only joined once by a stranger (and once by a friend). You can also rent a private onsen located in the basement and my friend loved the private bath! You can have up to 4 people at once. The staff themselves were super friendly, accommodating, and nice! We only spoke English and they tried our best to accommodate us, only once did I have to use Google translate. Our room was nice for three people. We got a cypress bath despite not ordering one and it was amazing! You definitely don’t NEED a private bath with this since you can open the window and sit in a hot steamy bath! The public onsen’s bath was quite large. Can fit 5 strangers inside it comfortably, 10 people if they are okay with themselves, and maybe 20 if we’re getting REAL comfortable.

It was perfect. I enjoyed my stay and had loads of fun for my bday celebration. The staff was very accommodating and was considerate enough to throw a surprise greeting for my birthday. Loved the whole stay! I would very much go back.

PortugalWe were deeply disappointed with our experience here. We usually do not post negative reviews, but we feel compelled to warn other families. While partly blaming booking.com, the communication between us, the ryokan, and booking.com was severely lacking, leaving us feeling cheated. We extensively researched ryokans with private baths and in-room kaiseki dinners before booking the family room through booking.com. It was expensive, but we considered it a once-in-a-lifetime luxury experience for one night. Two days later, booking.com altered our reservation from 4 to 2 people, providing no explanation and refunding half the cost. After contacting both the hotel and booking.com, we managed to include our kids but at a higher cost (€70), which neither party justified. We asked whether it was correct that kids should pay the same as adults for food and lodging but received no response before our stay. Upon arrival, it became clear that the experience did not match the price. The kaiseki dinner in the room was no longer available, which was one of the reasons we booked this particular roykan. When inquiring about a children's dinner, we were told it needed to be arranged in advance, which we had obviously tried to but recieved no response. We later discovered that kids staying with adults paid half the rate we did, leaving us feeling deceived. At checkout, we inquired about the lack of responses before our stay and asked for a refund adjustment for the children. We were told Booking.com would contact us but they - again - provided no resolution. Further attempts to reach them were futile. Based on our experience, we do not recommend this ryokan. Even if paying the correct price, the hotel interiors show signs of age, and the dining experience fell short of expectations (started well, but rushed through as other guests came, and dishes were not top notch). We had much better food elsewhere in Japan. We also won't book through booking.com again.
The hot bath which was semi outdoors was lovely, and the room itself was nice and traditional. The staff was friendly and courteous and the traditional breakfast was very nice. The location is great with a river view.

United StatesBeautiful ryokan and location; right next to Togetsukyo bridge and the Arashiyama Monkey Park. The staff were wonderful and were kind enough to make a dinner reservation for us at a nearby restaurant. We also rented the private sentou/onsen which was great for couples and people with tattoos.
