Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaBed size and bathroom and bed size seems to be small in all of Japan, and you can maybe get a bigger bed if you take the superior rooms.
The bed and the bathroom were really small. The bathroom is a bit outdated as it’s an older hotel, the shower was amazing though. The location, staff and the breakfast were really good. Very conveniently located as most shopping and sight seeing areas were walking distance. The free shuttle service to and from Kyoto station is very convenient.

IrelandThe bar is a little pricy but thats understandable.
The staff are absolutely superb. assisted us in everyway possible, from luggage forwarding, to locating a misplaced passport. Top notch. The rooms are a little old but it is an enjoyable style and very clean. Access to the subway and a small shopping mall below which brings you close to Shinkyogoku is very helpful.

United KingdomNothing - everything was perfect!
Everything about Hotel Okura was outstanding. The staff were super friendly the rooms was lovely and large, the breakfast was sumptuous- seriously there was nothing we didn’t like. It holds an old elegance, that’s not to say it’s dated more classic which we loved. Super clean and such wonderful staff who couldn’t do enough to help you. The courtesy shuttle bus from the train station was a nice touch too.

United Statesstaff was colder and less friendly than other places we stayed in Osaka and Kyoto. desert counter in the lobby was super overpriced. the complimentary shuttle only started at 10am so a bit inconvenient.
Location was great, short walk to subway and bus lines. You can tell this was once the height of business travel, it still caters to a certain guest. room was standard, bathroom well equipped. The hotel felt like it was high-class in the 80s/90s and now just needs a little updating.

Best stay in Kyoto area! Staff is so kind, the location is superb! Highest building in Kyoto area, going out of the hotel you have Familymart and 7 eleven, can always buy a bento box with yummy delicious food. The subway is right at the hotel lower floors, rooms are super clean and spacious. The breakfast is superb, you get to drink coffee and choose from a rich buffet on the 17th floor ! We had the best honeymoon stay at this amazing hotel and property!! So grateful for the kind attitude and treatment we got, thank you thank you thank you!! Ariggato for everything

Great location. Very central for our needs and sightseeing. Subway right there and convenience stores and shopping malls. Close to Gion district. Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean and tidy and very well presented. Shuttle to Kyoto station was a great help. Great view from our room. The room was plenty big enough for all 3 of us. AustraliaIt’s always a great pleasure to stay at the elegant, historic Hotel Okura. The rooms are comfortable, attractive, spacious and well-equipped, there are good views of the river, mountains and city, the food is delicious, the staff are professional and helpful, and the location is perfect. This time was extra special as I had a fall in Higashiyama and fractured my kneecap, so I had to cut short my trip and return to Australia for surgery. The hotel accommodated my need to stay extra days in Kyoto while travel was being arranged, booked airport transport for me, had housekeeping clean my room very quickly at an agreed time each day while I waited in the lobby, and helped in whatever ways were possible. Looking forward to staying again, and I hope it won’t be too long!

United StatesWe ended up taking a lot of cabs to the main tourist sites. We took a 20 minute cab instead of needing to take multiple subways or buses which would have taken 45 min to an hour.
We walked 5 minutes to various coffee shops and bakeries. Grandir was out favorite patisserie - excellent baked goods and bread but only for take out and no coffee. Great restaurants and bars around 15 minutes walk away. Kyoto is a fabulous place and the temples and sites are spectacular. Had ice cream one day in the hotel's cafe which was very nice. Staff were extremely helpful recommending restaurants and bars. Easy walk to Uniglo and shopping and Nishiki market. Rooms were extremely large with plenty of counter space, a full closet, a comfortable chair and table. Bathroom was huge with shower and tub and great lighting. Comfortable beds and pj and slippers were provided! Beautiful lobby.
