Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWhat an amazing stay. Every thing was thought out and detailed out for the most amazing stay. The bathroom and room were wonderful. Close to subway and close to restaurants and a wonderful coffee shop across the canal. The staff went above and beyond for us and we even used the laundry service.

United KingdomI saw someone comment about a smell in the room. I think this comes from the cedar bath in the bathroom and so is a natural odour.
Everything! The staff were polite and helpful and even dried a couple of items of washing for us even though their service was closed.

We chose this hotel because we wanted to experience staying in a Ryokan. Loved the traditional Japanese ambiance with a modern twist. Room was very spacious and equipped with window blinds that blocks out the light in the morning. We also loved the wooden bathroom and tub.

IndiaLovely hotel in a nice location in Kyoto, walking distance from Kyoto Station and some of the temples /sights nearby. Staff were very nice and helpful and even gave us hand warmers and umbrellas (it was cold /rainy when we went in Feb). Room was very nice and comfortable and the traditional breakfast (veg option available) was excellent!

IsraelUpon arrival and every time you enter and leave hotel "lobby", you need a bit more room in order to chance from street shoes to hotel shoes. I guess another bench or little extra sitting area to change your shoes would be appreciated, but other then that it was a perfect stay!!
The hotel gives a very Japanese-modern experience - room style, hotel entrance, staff appearance etc. we loved the room, the Yokattas, and the special wooden bathroom. Location was very comfortable for us. Cheap if you want to arrive with taxi on a night out, and pretty easy if you use the subway. Also it's a walking distace to Kyoto Shinkansen station, and if you prefer taxi its about 1000 ¥. You enter the hotel and your room with an electronic keypad code which was very easy and comfortable. about 50 meters from hotel you have a seven-11, which we found very comfy. also a very recommended place with nice food, atmosphere and beer is just across the seven-11, called CRAFT-KYOTO, they have their own brewery called Nude beer, we really loved. Much better on all counts from the little beer place you have a side from the hotel entrance (this one is nice, but very loud and touristy, so if you want something more saddle go to Craft Kyoto across the 7-11).

United KingdomNothing. This place was indeed a big contribution towards the full Kyoto experience. We have nothing but good words for this place. Worth the visit.
Amazing place located just few minutes away from the Kyoto Station, on the east part of the city with easy access to the underground, and walking distance to some of the major attractions in Kyoto like Fushimi Inari, Gion, or the Imperial Palace. The neighbourhood is very quiet and calm with nice restaurants nearby (check the Tokyo Beer Bar just next door!) The staff members are amazing and welcoming, the room is spacious, traditional and comfy (see the pics!). They have a laundry system that is very nice too and helped us quite a lot. Very happy with the experience.

The accommodation was beautiful, clean, and calming. It is an absolutely ideal place to stay, and you shouldn't think twice about booking.

United KingdomNo restaurant meant we couldn’t have breakfast with our friends but that’s being really picky as hotel really is amazing.
Amazing traditional inn in the heart of Kyoto, alongside a little idyllic river, minutes from the food and bar street and about 15 minutes walk from the station and Kyoto tower. The room are amazing. Spacious. With a table for your breakfast as unfortunately there’s no restaurant so breakfast has to be served in the room. Very hearty breakfast by the way. There’s a kimono and slippers in the room. The cedar bath is incredible. So fragrant. All singing all dancing toilet as is the custom in Japan. You can walk to the narrow street (no idea of the name) that has all the restaurants and bars and it’s also about 20 minute walk to the main shopping area. The temples are a pleasant half hour walk away and Gion is just the other side of the river.

United StatesI really liked the friendliness of the staff. They were helpful and very concerned about making our stay more pleasant. The tea set in the room was very nice and I enjoyed making my morning tea and sitting and enjoying the Zen garden every morning. I also liked the security of the building in the evening and the passcode required to gain entrance.

FranceA better choice of bread would have been nice. We did not get to interact with the other guests, so there is lack of community on the compound.

United StatesThis ryokan is a blend of traditional and modern comforts. Japanese breakfast was fantastic. Room was very large compared to where we stayed in Tokyo. Staff were incredibly helpful and pleasant. The cypress tub was nice to soak in. Coffee and tea was made available in the room, with very nice cups and settings. Probably one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in.. They also provide yukatas (casual kimonos) that you can wear both in and out of the hotel. Free of charge. We liked them so much we purchased two when we left from them.

The proximity to the Keihan line was very beneficial as my wife and I would be active everyday. The greatest benefit to this location in addition to the room amenities, proximity, cleanliness was the staff. This is what made us choose this location again for Kyoto and will always in the future. The staff was incredibly accommodating to any and all requests we may have had, immensely considerate to us, and went above on all requests to call or book appointments or even just inquiries.
