Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesSince it is a small and old building, the sound does transfer easily. Upstairs guests kept walking around and talking loudly past midnight around 1am, so I had a hard time sleeping. It was not the host's fault at all.
One of the most genuine and kind hosts, who always went above and beyond. Thank you so much for all your help Yoko san. We felt at peace in her home. Her breakfast was our best meal in Kyoto too lol, healthy and delicious- we felt all the love that was made with it, and so energized afterwards instead of sluggish! Very lovely and traditional Japanese garden, you can tell how much Yoko pays attention to all the details. Peaceful surroundings, and walking distance to the subway and grocery store, restaurants etc.

New ZealandThe ryokan was absolutely stunning. Yoko has done a fantastic job in both the layout and atmosphere of her beautiful Inn. The rooms were tidy, and comfortable and had everything we needed. The dining room, with its outlook onto the garden was lovely. Yoko cooks a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast - the best we had while staying in Japan.

United KingdomWe had a fantastic stay at Mitsuki. Yoko is an amazing host and is incredibly helpful with everything, from recommendations to booking luggage services. The traditional breakfast everyday was delicious and we also enjoyed the small bar at the front of the property where you can have drinks and snacks and try local drinks. The beds were really comfortable, we slept so well! The Ryokan is a 2 minute walk from the nearest metro station and it's really easy to get around. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend staying here.

AustraliaThis place is exceptional to stay as the owner Yoko takes great pride and care of her place of generations. Every decoration is done in an artistic and thoughtful manner, and every dish is prepared with a story. Yoko also went out of her way to help us with our trip planning and provided us with many useful tips including early blossoms of Sakura! We are truly impressed by her hospitality and how considerate she is. This beautiful place is great for people who are looking for authentic traditional Japanese experiences.

everything was just perfect! I was reading the reviews and was already impressed but it was even better than I expected. the room was spacious and the beds were so comfortable. the bathroom was well divided and the soap and amenities provided were top quality. but as other reviews mentioned, the host Yoko is just the most wonderful and caring person we met during our trip in Japan. she made our stay so wonderful. the breakfasts were so delicious and she went above and beyond to help us with restaurant recommendations and booking taxi. she even shortened the yukatas she had provided so that they would fit our kids. we cannot thank Yoko enough for such an amazing experience at her ryokan.

SingaporeIm the kind that lazy to give review. But this Ryokan experience made me go out of my way to do it. 10 out of 10 definitely recommend this to anyone. Our host, Yoko really take cares of us throughout our entire stay. Her genuine is something you can't get from anywhere else. What really touched my heart when she realised my girlfriend's hand is cold and she immediately cover it with her hands to keep it warm. Like a big sister. Food wise is a bomb, you can tell that it was made from heart. It was made down to the very fines detail. This place is underrated. There is only 2 rooms available and the service is very exclusve. All in all, i would stay here again when im coming back to kyoto. And to Yoko, thank you for the wonderful experience. Cheers, Lee Zi

United KingdomWe had a lovely and peaceful stay for three nights at the Mitsuki. With only two rooms, you really feel the personal touch and care from the proprietor, Yoko. Thank you for taking such good care of us! The room was very comfortable, and make sure you don't miss the excellent breakfast. The location seems very quiet, but there are some great restaurants in the area. Yoko's recommendations were all fantastic!
