Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

HungaryI reserved one night only. 😅 I wanted to stay more!
The most amazing staff and best hotel experience in all of Japan! We travelled a lot and this is far above all! We have a 2 year old, so we always look for non-smoking and child-friendly hotels in Japan, this is truly it. The room has a nice tatami smell, it was spacious and bright, fully child safe. The curtain was perfectly blocking the street light at night and there was no bright light or noise in the room. They use the best mattress brand in Japan, they are very comfortable and large. You can rent different types of pillows. The staff is super friendly and warm, playing and taking care of the kids very much, it's not the regular distant politeness. They have child seats, utensils and plates for kids too. There is a play corner next to the restaurant. I am truly amazed by this all. They operate a lovely 'free coffee' and birdwatching spot between om 10 am to 4 pm. The dinner was a multi course, traditional Japanese meal with fresh seafood and seasonal delicatessens. It was mind-blowing. The buffet breakfast had plenty of delicious choices. We went to the onsen and sauna two times, we had the place only for us. The hotel and the surroundings are peaceful and calm. A huge park and viewpoint offers space for children in all seasons. There is no access to the lake, so it's safe for free play. In wintertime, they offer sleigh and other snow toys. It's worth going to the Visitor Center (5 min drive), which offers a great interactive experience for kids.

CanadaThe dinner happened to serve some lamb happened not be a favorite meat for us (personal taste). but still pretty good.
Good food both dinner and breakfast. Good location right at the National Park. Quiet and tuck away. It is a small size onsen hotel. Thus, more tailor to smaller group. Very nice. Saw some wild lifes at the park as well.

AustraliaThere was a bit of a language barrier with none of the staff speaking English, but this isn't a real gripe as I'm the visitor and should be able to make myself understood. However, having english translations for the check in forms would be a worthwhile investment as I didn't understand what some of the words were, and they weren't able to tell me. The peace and tranquility comes at a cost though - a 15 minute walk from the visitor centre bus stop, according to the visitor information guide, but in snow, uphill, dragging luggage it will take much longer than that. I was lucky enough to have a taxi appear dropping off a family and was able to get the taxi to drive me there in five minutes for about 1000 yen. Compared to the alternative this is excellent value. There needs to be a shuttle service available for pickup and dropoff for those that catch the bus from Chitose. If one exists it needs to be mentioned in their brochures or their website. They do have a shuttle service that leaves the onsen at 9.15 - about 15 minutes before the bus arrives in the morning - however on the english information sheet it says the shuttle leaves at 9.30. To their credit, they brought the shuttle out just for me and got me to the bus stop in time to save me waiting another few hours for the next one.
The location is great for an onsen - away from the hustle and bustle and relatively cheap compared to the other places around the visitor centre. Room are small but comfy, with a choice of a traditional room or a western style one, but with no private shower facilities (though each room has it's own toilet). Given this place is an onsen though, the whole point is to use the shared facilities, so you can't fault them for that. Breakfast and dinner are included in the cost of the rooms as well. Having western cutlery would be handy for those not au fait with chopsticks, but the set menu was tasty enough and came in courses with cold dishes and appetisers being served up while your beef and rice cook. If you plan on having snacks, get some from the convenience store in the village before heading to the Onsen.

Singaporeloved this hotel! can’t think of anything negative!
Everything was perfect! location was perfect, tucked in the forest, away from the busy crowd at the ice festival, yet just 5 min free shuttle by the hotel to visit. Will definitely recommend.

United StatesI liked the style, the staff, except for one old man who was lacking manners unfortunately, but the rest of the staff were great. The location is very far and dicontinued from any city or access to taxis. There is a bus station nearby, but in winter you'll have to walk 20 minutes in the snow to reach there. The dinner was very tasty, the breakfast was good. The onsen was nice and cosy, not big though. I general it gave a good experience in how the Japanese live, but the hotel is old and I hope it can stay operating for long time.

AustraliaPerfect hotel. There was nothing I could suggest for improvement.🙂. I don't know where the frowning face comes from.
This was the third time I stayed at this hotel. I usually travel Japan every year for a month or more. It was perfect every time. Service in Japanese hotels is generally very good to excellent. This hotel is unassuming but one level better. The personal attention to guests is just outstanding, even amazing. Good Onsen, located in a lovely bird sanctuary forest next to the lake, pleasant ambience. I was lucky this time they served Kaiseki dunner (only 6 months of the year). It was among the best I ever had (5 nights). They were kind enough to provide a translation on English for each of the courses every night.

Czech RepublicI don't think I can pick on anything. Maybe, this one is 100% personal and won't apply to you if you have different way of thinking, but as it was first time staying at ryokan, I felt like I am doing something wrong and that worrying probably didn't help me get fully relaxed.
This was my first time staying at ryokan-style hotel. Staff addressed every issue or question I had from dinner(I am on gluten-free diet) to questions like where I find Ice festival there. My room had charging brick with normal outlets but also USBs, many hotels do and many hotels don't have that, so I think it's fine to mention it. I didn't expect sauna in the public bath, so I was really pleasantly surprised by that.

Beautiful. Extremely relaxing, and the grounds are just lovely. Mailed ahead to request a vegetarian meal and they took great care over it. Staff went out of their way to accommodate and everything was clean and pristine. Again, can't say enough about the service received. Exceptional.
