Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe beds are a little old and creaky.
Our family of 5 adults enjoyed a six night stay in Appi Kogen in three double bedrooms at Appi Life is Beautiful. The location is nice, within the village. Tom runs you up the hill to the ski resort each morning and picks you up at the end of the day. Breakfast was simple Japanese selection each morning. There was always plenty. The room was warm and had a nice bay window. The best part of the stay is Tom the owner who is friendly and funny. A true character. Overall we had a great stay.

SingaporeCozy room with floor heating not so common in hotels/ hostels in Japan. The hot bath is based on 1hr slot booking so is good for visitors who prefer private ofuro apres ski. Pickup and drop off at the ski center is convenient as the bus to the Morioka station departs from there. Though the timing may be about 1hr apart, the canteen at the ski center has wide variety of food to enjoy while waiting.

AustraliaLighting in the room is a bit dim but it didnt bother me
Warm and friendly hosts. I had a couple of personal issues during my stay and they helped willingly. Guesthouse is about 1km from the ski hill but Tom san does a great job getting everyone to and from the mountain. Meals were excellent especially the Sunday night BBQ. Wow!! Front desk has discounted ski passes. Rooms are spacious, have a nice view, private bathroom, heating and wi-fi all good.

The lodge is walking distance to the ski resort and the food is delicious for both breakfast and dinner. Free shuttle was offered to and from the ski resort (but I walked since as it was not snowing and I needed the warm up stroll). Refreshing trip.

The atmosphere, the staff, the food!! The ensuites were clean and large with good hot water. The floors were heated, so the rooms were very cosy. Enough hanging space. Good wifi. Basic but satisfying morning breakfast. Amazing 3 course dinners! The BBQ was next level amazing! The owners are kind and very attentive. And the dog BonBon is the cutest!

IndonesiaThe food was a real disappointment, bordering on embarassing, especially dinner. There was not nearly enough food for people burning up calories skiing - more like entree size - and also was very poor quality and compares extremely unfavourably to places nearby I have stayed at previously. In addition, my food allergies (acknowledged upon booking) were ignored by the kitchen. Breakfast was passable. There are more food options available externally than there used to be, so next time I wouldn't be booking dinner.
The place was simple but aesthetically pleasing, and most impotantly it was clean, tidy and warm.

CanadaBeds are way too soft and terrible. Seemed like sumo wrestlers slept there before. They should be changed. Was just an OK sleep and glad I ended up booking only one night. Room is outdated, but it was ok for the duration of the stay. Dinner and breakfast were good. Overall an OK stay if you get a good price, otherwise would rather pay a bit more and stay in the hotels next to Appi Kogen slopes.
Super friendly staff. A bit hard to communicate ahead of the stay but we finally understood there’s not really a storage area inside the lodge for bags. We came up on the morning bus from Morioka to Appi Kogen and wanted to ski that same day. There are big and small lockers at the resort day lodge (“Appi Plaza”). Little private bath (“onsen”) inside the lodge is extra charge and not included by default. Owners drive to ski resort in the morning (8am-9am) and back in the afternoon (4pm-5pm) free of charge.

NetherlandsRooms are basic, but we knew that upfront. Plus, this makes the price good! Lqte afternoon we sat on the veranda and in the evening we stayed downstairs for a bit. Everything worked out fine!
The owner is such a kind person. Trying to help where he can. Helped us with finding lively hikes. He and his staff cook fantastic! Such a treat in the evening.

Dinner was limited and we were left with bitter taste :( Taking off shoes @the enterance is fine, just get it organised so people can come in without stepping on other people's shoes!
