Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyIt is a beautiful place where you can feel and experience Japanese traditional living. Very comfortable, smart and wonderful accommodation. We stayed there a week and it was just the perfect place to explore Kyoto as its location is superb. We stayed with a small child and it was a really choice for that. The bathroom is also comfy with a bath tub and view to the small garden that the house has. It was not noisy at all. Wifi worked well. It also has a fridge, a washing machine and a stove which is practical when traveling with a baby.

The apartment is small but functional. Super clean! Prime location, within waking distance to many attractions. Two bathrooms is a plus! AC worked very well on the 4 hot days while we were there. My kids enjoyed sleeping in the tatami room upstairs and didn’t want to leave lol

GermanyIt would be great if additional hooks for towels could be installed in the bathroom and in the entrance area in order to hang rain coats & jackets.
Amazingly renovated property in the heart of the old town. Very comfortable, within easy reach of everything. Bus stop around the corner as well as several family marts & 7/11s.

United StatesNo curtain in the bedrooms so we were woken up by the morning light. It is not an issue if you start the day early but bothered us a lot. Also the bedroom facing steer is much nosier. You can easily hear cars passing by from the main street.
The location is perfect! It is 3 mins away from Hokan-ji temple and 100 meters to bus station, grocery and restaurants. It is a bit far away from train station. But it is great to walk thru Hanamikoji Street after dinner and enjoy the other side of Kyoto. The house is very clean and cozy. It has everything we expect.

AustraliaNothing. Loved everything about it.
The house is traditional style, adorable and spotless clean. Fresh clean bedding. Kitchen and bathrooms are well-appointed. The location is excellent in Gion, close to the ancient sites and sights, also close to restaurants and a convenience store. A nice walk to Shirakawa Lane and abundant restaurants. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful when we needed assistance.

United StatesWe did run into some ants problems inside the apartment. It was almost check out time for us so we didn’t do anything about it but we did inform the reception about it. Hope it won’t happen to anyone else!
Love the location. Easy key pick up from the reception. And they even had a taxi taking us from the reception place to the actual apartment. The place was nice and clean and looked exactly like the pictures!

United StatesThe check-in is not the same as the location. It was a short walk from the train station but with baggage and a 1.5 year old it was just a bit more difficult.
Friendly staff who let us store our bags until check-in and were quick to set us up with a taxi that was provided at no cost. Having a taxi take us directly to the home was nice.

The location was perfect! 1 minute walk from bus stop, 2 mins walk from the famous pagoda, 10 mins walk to Kiyomizu Temple, lovely family run Yakitori restaurant opposite bus stop, 711 nearby, and really big Fresco supermarket just 5 minutes walk away. Everything is within reach. Especially in early mornings, visit the temple before anybody else, the view was amazing! You do need to get to the Kyoto station branch reception to pick up the key and check in, but only very cheap taxi ride, about 1000 yen, and then you will get a free taxi to the property. All reception staffs are so friendly and helpful. Thanks very much for lovely travel size toiletries too. The guest house itself was almost brand new. It’s exceptionally cleaned and organised with all spaces well maintained. Bedrooms are very cozy and comfortable, the traditional tatami room was nicely decorated. Upstairs toilet was very practical for upstairs bedrooms. Japanese style wet room/ bathroom was very easy to use. Washing machine and tumble dryer 2 in 1 was very handy for families, and it’s remarkably efficient and quite. Located in central location but very peaceful and quite at night. Everyone in the family has enjoyed the stay, and we all loved the place. Will definitely stay here again when we come to Kyoto next time. Thanks very much for everything!

United StatesWhile the kitchen has all of the amenities, I wouldn't want to cook in it as it's a bit small and lacks countertop space. We aren't there to cook though, so it worked very well for us! My only other nitpick is there aren't enough towel hooks or places to hang the robe they provide.
The location was perfect and the property has been absolutely wonderfully renovated. It's gorgeous, definitely the most beautiful place I've stayed. So many nice touches throughout and truly a perfect place to stay a couple nights at in the heart of Kyoto. Next door is the most wonderful and friendly kimono rental business, which I highly recommend. A short hike up the mountain leads to Yasaka Shrine and Shogunzuka, which has incredible views of Kyoto and is well worth the trek. Also within walking is Kiyomizu-Dera Shrine, which has lush trees and garden spaces, ponds, temples, and intriguing architecture.

AustraliaI would recommend this place for anyone who wishes to stay at a quiet place which is also close to many tourist attractions. The house is big enough for 2-4 people with a lot of facilities. A drawback is that we had to collect keys from a different place but the hosts arrange a taxi from the key collection area to the place of stay. To those who arrive to Kyoto via the Kyoto station, it only costs 500 Yen to travel from the train station to the reception from where you can collect the key. Close to the place where we stayed, we found a nice Nepalese restaurant and a 7/11 shop, so no issue for food. And a bus stop is just a min walk, so easy to travel around as well.
