How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The entire hotel was heated to much above our comfortable level- even in a skirt and a tshirt, I was sweating even whilst sitting in the common area, and the capsule was too warm to sleep well. If only it wasn’t so hot, we’d have rated it a 10.
We stayed in the ladies’ capsule section and it was excellent- aside from the capsule bed, you also get a tall locker, desk, and some floor space with a curtain so you have privacy and space. It’s really nicely done. The bathrooms were clean (little mould on the shower ceilings, but it is Japan after all and things go mouldy here quickly) and the common lounge area was open and welcoming. There were lots of amenities to use, for those who needed them, and free coffee and multiple types of tea. We didn’t use the public bath owing to small tattoos- they might want to review this, I don’t think they’ll have too many gangsters to worry about, somehow! Staff were very kind, all spoke English (even when I started in Japanese) and overall it was a great experience.

The bed was a bit hard.
The location was perfect, close to the train and bus station, and to the popular locations from Matsumoto. There was also a small spa available. Price was good.

When we arrived, despite booking a two bed room, I was told it was only a one person booking and was asked to pay an additional fee for my son. That was disappointing because surely if you are booking a two bed room it is because there are two guests. Another mix up happened when we asked on check in if they could forward our bags to next hotel. They said yes but when we brought them down later to do so, they said they could no longer do it. That was very disappointing.
It was very clean and comfortable.

Location was nice and so was the place. Didn't get to use, but offering free bicycle rent is great! Staff gets bonus points for saying "obrigado", which is Portuguese for "thank you".

The onsen timing for males and females was rotating. Was not able to use the onsen as we checked out before the assigned time. Also was provided with 1 small and 1 normal sized pillows for a room for 2.

No social atmosphere. Staff don't speak english so use google translate. Can only use the onsen between 3-7pm if you are female, no morning session for females which is very unfair.
Towels, toiletries, etc included. Free city bike hire for upto 3hrs per day. Location is 10-15mins walk to the castle. Clean and modern, spacious dormitory.

The bed is very very firm, and the pillows are thin and horribly uncomfortable...
Very nice hostel/hotel. Located 5 mins from the train station. The room was as described, and the price was very fair

It was a one floor hotel inside a building in the 5th or 6th floor. It was confusing as I couldn’t locate it in the beginning but the staff in the bookstore guided me to the elevator going up to the hotel.
It was near the bus station and a convenience store.

The beds really aren't very comfortable and it can be hard to find if you've not stayed here before.
It's quiet and has great amenities. It's also conveniently located near the bus station and the train station. It's also warm in the winter which is important when traveling in Nagano.

The bed was very firm. Aside from this the stay was overall nice.
Clean and neat rooms, clean bathroom. Free bike hire was really great and helpful to get around as Matsumoto is a beautiful city to see by bicycle. Lots of food, shopping and restaurants nearby.

For their dining place, it is equipped with the necessary basic amenities. If you want, there's a public bath available for both genders at specific time slots. Smooth check-in.

Close proximity to matsumoto bus terminal. There's a public bath available with onsen. One floor down and you've got daiso. Overall pleasant experience here!
