Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Our arrival at this establishment was a great surprise. Makoto and Guillaume immediately put us at ease. We had this feeling of being part of a team. Parties are organized and no one is left out. Despite the fact that wa spoke neither English nor Japanise Makoto did everything possible to communicate with us. Guillaume has very good places to go out. Thank you verry much to Makoto and Guillaume who participated in the succes of the trip.

TurkeyI think only drawback is the guest house’s location however this is not a big issue and can be manageable. Just prepare yourself for lots of public transport!
Makoto is a great host and the environment in the guest house was great. I strongly recommend visiting Makoto’s guest house for any traveler!

United KingdomA friendly and welcoming hostel in a quiet neighborhood, yet a short walk to the station and nice places to eat. I was lucky to be here for the Sakura blooming and we had a little party in a local park organised by the host. Beds are really comfortable and the place is very clean and tidy. Great host, great company, perfect if you want a more relaxed stay. If I come to Tokyo again I'll definitely book this place.

GermanyVery strict rules, mostly very reasonable though. The luggage is kept at the entry and there is not much space there. Also half of the bed blinds are in a light color so don't really darken the light.
Friendly atmosphere, great host that helps you out if you have questions and also has some fun with the guests. Well equipped kitchen and shops as well as restaurants nearby.

Perfect location, the guests were more than incredible, Makoto is the best owner I've found in a guesthouse. A really fun place to stay and meet the best people in the town, restaurants in the near areas are really traditional and inexpensive. I will be back soon!

AustraliaNothing to dislike, I spent 2 great weeks here
Every guest in the two weeks I stayed was a solo traveller, and the vibe of the hostel is super social - but you can also retreat to your private bunk whenever you like. The place is kept very clean and the beds are super comfy. It takes an hour to get anywhere in Tokyo so being slightly further out wasn't a problem and I loved staying somewhere with no other tourists, plus there's kameari station super close by. Makoto is lovely too, great for a night out at an izakaya. As others have said, just be aware the check in/out rules are firm so if you're coming after 10pm you won't be able to check in. Makoto is running the place by himself so can't be there 24hrs!

It was so cool! I really liked the box design for the beds, which I didn’t expect. It provided some nice privacy.

AustraliaNo complaints
There is a real magic to Makoto’s guesthouse. As a solo traveller I booked on a whim as my final stay in Japan and I’m so happy I did. It was without a doubt the best place I stayed in all of Japan. There are many solo travellers and they are all some of the friendliest people I have ever met. Makoto himself is also one of the greatest hosts I have had. Yes he is strict on the rules but that is just part of the Japanese hospitality experience. He really makes an effort to organise events to meet new guests and see old ones off which really helps add to the ease with which you will make friends there, as well as the amicable environment. Shout out to Guillaume for being a great worker and very friendly new staff member at the guest house, and a great new friend. But he is just one of the many new friends I made during my stay. It is a bit out of the way from the inner city but the night life around the area is still very fun and a great way to meet locals. Thanks again for such a wonderful stay, I will certainly be back :)

ChinaThe only minor downside is that the 24h subway ticket pass does cover the kameari station you will most likely get off at (you will need to pay 150 yen extra)
The mood in the hostel is the one you wish you had at all hostels, there's a kitchen common area where you will always find someone to chat with, while on the other hand you have your own privacy in the wooden capsules in the rooms above. Makoto makes the biggest difference to the experience, always inviting the guests to local events
