How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

We had a traditional Japanese style room, and it was comfortable and clean. Bathroom is a bit old but still clean. Needed to make up own beds at night, which is an extra effort after a big day with 2x sleepy kids.

The room was in a classic Japanese style. The futon mat was prepared by the stuff and they were very friendly. Also the location is right in the center and not far away from the Matsumoto castle.

the room is clean with all teh vanities and towers. and the breakfast!
the room looks good but old. the breakfast is also nice with a lot of choices. the location is good and close to Matsumoto castle! However the check out time is 10 am, it's too early!

Perfect location for an overnight stay with clean facilities and only a short walk to Matsumoto castle. Approx 15-20 minutes walk from the train station. Great breakfast selection! We would recommend eating out at Itoya Matsumoto!!

The breakfast offering was not as expected. Not much variety and very small plates provided.
The location was good. The room was a good size by Japanese standards and their was a gorgeous view out the window.

We stayed in a traditional Japanese room, which we all loved and was great for kids. Lovely onsen and breakfast in this beautiful hotel. Great staff and a fabulous location in the older part of town. We loved Matsumoto, was a gorgeous town!

A really nice old (historic) hotel in the town centre. We were a family group of four, and were given a suite of rooms, with tatami for the sleeping areas. The breakfast was surprisingly good, with a wide choice of Asian and Western food.

The Onsen was being renovated so there was restricted availability. We had not been warned of this before hand. We also tried to communicate with the hotel before our arrival to organise a transfer from the train but the hotel did not respond to emails.
The location is excellent - near the castle but close to food and shops. The dinners were both fantastic - the food fresh and interesting. The staff is very helpful and very keen to make sure your stay is perfect. The Onsen facilities are excellent.

A bit out of the way from Matsumoto train station and it is not clear how to book their shuttle pick up. The hotel has cut back on some of their previous services which is understandable but unfortunate. Staff training can be improved.
It has Japanese tatami rooms which can accomodate 4 persons. It has onsen. The breakfast is good. The place has a nice vibe.

Location was great as it was near the castle. Breakfast was a decent spread. Staff arranged an early shuttle pick up from station at the last minute.

The toilet sewer at first room.
The initial room assigned at annex smell bad due to toilet ventilation is not working. Fortunately after feedback to the receptionist and checked by him the condition of the room, he managed to change another room for us. Will rate based on the second room. Consider an upgrade with more spacious room and separate toilet, bathroom and wash basins were a plus. Location is great as just 5 min walk to Matsumoto castle.

The heating was AC in the room which was really dry. Needed a humidifier. Probably possible to borrow but would’ve been great if it was in the room
Such a cute little gem! Beautiful small hotel located in the center of Matsumoto. There are many hip cafes and bakeries and restaurants around. Love the combination of the tradition and modern style of the hotel.

It’s external wall was under renovation and windows had no view during my stay; otherwise I’d have given perfect ratings.
Overall, the hotel is well managed and very good value for money. It’s also close - within walking distance - to the city museums and shopping mall that I wanted to go.
