Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Our best stay in Japan so far!! We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful mountain cottage. Ura-san is the kindest host who goes the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable and happy. It is such a peaceful place and was perfect for us to rest for 2 nights after walking the kumano kodo. The cottage is really unique, very woody and lovely. The bathtub is amazing and very relaxing. The views are so exceptional, you can't believe your eyes as you arrive! Just to sit and wonder at the amazing scene before you is enough here. You get back in touch with nature in the most tranquil setting. Highly recommend, we want to return already 🌟 !

The place is as lovely as everyone says and the photos can’t do it justice. Everything is very simple but everything you could possibly need is there, and so thoughtfully and beautifully designed and arranged. And beyond that, Ura is an incredible host and an incredible human being. We got a flat tire on the way to his place — warning to others, GoogleMaps insisted on sending us on route 235, a very narrow and rough road, rather than route 43, which is absolutely the way to go—and without any fuss at all, Ura called the rental car company and repaired place and arranged everything for us at a moment when we were frazzled. First thing Monday morning he accompanied us to the car repair shop, communicated what was needed and stayed with us until we were good to go. Because of his extraordinary care we were able to relax and enjoy his beautiful place despite our mishap. 1000% recommend.

It was heaven!!! Floating above the clouds seeing the mountains and the sea at the same time surrounded by the beautiful sounds of nature was pure bliss. The cabin is amazing, spacious and well equipped. The beds are very comfy, and the fireplace warms the soul. Our host took us to the grocery store on the way up and we never left until the day we checked out. There is a spectacular view from every room, even the shower. It was living a dream!!

IrelandWe are experienced travellers and our stay in the cottage was by far one of our favourite things we’ve ever done. We decided to book it for 2 nights at the end of our Kumano Kodo walk, and we’re so glad we did. We spent our entire time there without leaving the cottage, it was so beautiful. First of all, the cottage: This is a beautifully constructed cabin, with an incredible view and was very comfortable. A dream setting. We had the place to ourselves, even though the photos on the Booking website made it seem like we’d have the owners living next door or something, but that wasn’t the case. We had all the necessary appliances to make food, and the rice cooker was fantastic. We cooked rice there that Katsuro grows himself. The movement of the sun, shadows, haze and clouds throughout the day, made for an incredible natural show that never got boring. The starry nights were beautiful, supplemented with the flash of light from a distant lighthouse. The whole experience even led to us getting engaged on the balcony! The host: A truly exceptional human being. The Japanese are known for being welcoming and friendly, and Katsuro (Ura) is the embodiment of all those great things that you hear about Japanese hospitality. He is warm, friendly, interesting, talented, and is genuinely interested in learning about his guests. He’s a former fireman, who now works in the fields as a farmer. We had several conversations with Ura and wish we could have had many more. Ura gave us delicious blueberry jam, some very nice persimmons, and the rice from his fields was lovely. In addition to all of that, Ura picked us up from Nachi Falls at the end of our long walk, took us to the supermarket, and made all the logistical elements of getting to the property so easy for us. Finally, on our last morning there, we were taken to the shrines where Ura used to go as a child and it was such an honour. What an amazing person Ura is. We feel very lucky that he shared his paradise with us. ありがとう。

GermanyFrom the moss overgrown little stones that reminded us of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage hike through the forrest that we just came from, to overlooking the 3600 Forrest hills all the way to the sea and of course the cutest of wood cabins, everything was magical. Katsuro went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. He picked us up from the trail, took us to the supermarket and brought us to the train station the next day. a highlight was when he shared his homegrown blueberries with us - yum. What an unforgettable experience. I wish we had stayed longer.
