Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeNot a complaint but notes for picky travelers: - the shared bathhouse (in-house) goes by shift schedule. So if you aren’t comfortable with the public onsen, you need to time your day - breakfast is served at 7:30am (great for those heading out early to the slopes)
Centrally located. Close to the bus station, town where all the F&B is and easily accessible to the “Yu Road” travelator that takes you up to the mountain. The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast (additional fee) was excellent every morning. Public onsen right outside that opens till 11pm everyday - perfect for a late night soak. Will definitely go back.

AustraliaOnly downside is the restricted shower times - bath/shower limited to 430-730pm for males, 730-1030pm for females. We worked around it by going to the onsens (highly recommend Furusato-no-Yu (paid)), closest free public onsen is 1min walk.
Traditional lodge run by a lovely couple. Rooms are traditional with tatami and futons and even a kotatsu for those chilly nights! The rooms are a good size even for the twin room, plenty of space of 2 large suitcases. Definitely get the home cooked Japanese breakfast, it is delicious and changes everyday. High speed wifi, plenty of toilets, tea, coffee all provided. The location is perfect too, 1 min walk from Shinden bus stop and Shinden public onsen, 5 min walk to Nozawa town centre, 3 mins walk to the Chuo terminal bus stop (important when heading back to Iiyama station because the buses can skip Shinden if it’s crowded), 15 min walk to Nagasaka Gondola station and 10 min walk to Karasawa chair lift. We rented our gear from Nagasaka Sports Thanx but left them at the Karasawa Sports Thanx - it’s a much easier and shorter walk from the accomodation. We absolutely loved this place and I would definitely stay here again when I’m next in Nozawa Onsen

United StatesMaybe bring a different pillow of you have pillow preferences, however this would just be a small consideration.
Location, proximity to ski area, Soto-yu, restaurants, and complimentary tea and coffee in hotel. Restrooms on every floor. Drying room for snow gear. Friendly staff. We were the only westerners so the hotel was wonderfully quiet and just enough off the beaten path that we didn’t have to listen to all of the vacationers partying. There is no kettle or fridge in the room, but a shared fridge in the communal area and hot water downstairs. I was reluctant to stay in a place with a shared bathroom, but it was honestly a pleasant experience, and taking my nightly bath in the Soto-yu down the street was like a vacation in and of itself!

JapanReally simple, pretty lodging. Only complaint was I'm a tall person and the futon style bed was waaay to tiny for me, woke up sore each night trying to stay warm without running the heater all night

SingaporeBreakfast was really great every morning . Fantastic way to start the day before hitting the slopes. Minshuku was really really near the shuttle bus pickup and drop off. Cos you board the bus before the busier spots , there's always space !

New ZealandWasn't the most comfortable of beds, but that's a westerner sleeping on a traditional Japanese bed. Cannot shower except certain times that didn't suit our day. Walls quite thin but generally people were quiet.
Good breakfast, good facilities for skiing, well located.
