Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe host lady is very friendly. Though she doesn't speak English, she kept checking on us and made sure we had everything we needed The dinner portion set was huge, I was very full by the time I finished my meal. The highlight of the dinner meal is the charcoal grilled fish that she had prepared about 1 to 1.5 hours before the dinner served. The vegetables tempura are soooo yummy as well as the vegetable soup. The room is spacious and could easily accommodate a family of 4. The kimono set is provided along with other toiletries. Our bed was made of 2 layers of futton, and I should have asked one more futton to add extra comfort. It was a bit too hard for my back. I would recommend trying the bed when you arrive and checking if you need more layers. Don't wait till you go to bed, as you won't be able to ask the host as she has gone upstairs sleeping. Location wise, only 7 mins walking up from Ainokuraguchi bus stop. You will find the village is very charming and serene, not too crowded by tourists, the reason we chose this location to experience the real Japanese country life. In the morning, around 7.30 ish, there was a sound of gong, hit with longer intervals then followed by intense ringing bells from the Shrine-liked house just behind the house. The toilet is super duper modern equipped with all sensors that allow you to do and finish your business without hassle. The toilet seat opens automatically when you come in the cubicle. Once you get off, it flushes down, and soon after, the seat will close. We have seen this smart toilet before somewhere in Japan, but we weren't expecting to find it in this traditional Japanese home deep into the highlands. Thank you so much for the host lady for providing such a great experience for us.

Lovely stay in a traditional old house in UNESCO Heritage-listed Ainokura. Amazing dinner, amazing breakfast, hot green tea always available, a yukata to wear in the house. Loved the atmosphere of this traditional property, and I had my best sleep of my Japan trip - very comfy mattress! Place is kept warm by the heaters. Loved everything about it and recommending everyone to stay here! Great value for money as well. Friendly hosts, while with limited English they make the stay very comfortable. There is even a warm small spa bath in the bathroom, do yourself a favor and use it especially on a chilly day! Everything was great.

I enjoy the entire house. - traditional and delicious meal (I love the tofu) - cozy and clean - tourist information in the common area

United Arab EmiratesWhilst the country Japanese food like oden may not be to every foreigners liking, there are plentiful kaiseki dishes so even my fussy daughter had enough to eat. Its an authentic home so the shijori screens between the guest rooms will let light/noise from other guests through, so you need to be considerate of others.
We really loved our stay here! Our hostess was darling and her home a charming country stay. It was a lovely treat to discover the hot bath tub to use after showering for a somewhat Onsen-like experience. The fish cooking around the fire, the hot water bottles and kerosene heaters really take you out of modern life. The futons were the most comfortable we slept on in two trips to Japan. The silence of Ainokura at night magical! We arrived by bus, it was just a short walk from the highway to the village. As we arrived just before 3 from Kanazawa we could check in and explore at our leisure enjoying just birdsong and rushing water.

United StatesWe slept in a room adjacent to the two other groups with thin walls between us - I slept fine but my wife mentioned four people snoring in unison, myself included. We were originally turned off by the idea of a shared bathroom, but it wasn't bad at all.
Staying in a farmhouse in Japan was a new experience for us. There were many things outside our comfort level, such as the dinner and breakfast, futons. Japanese style bath, but we expected it and embraced it. Our host, Hiromi, was veey friendly and works hard. She and her husband have owned the house for 40 years. There were two other groups of people starting there also, a Japanese couple and a young foursome from Singapore. It was fun enjoying their company and sharing sake. The village is very peaceful after hours.
