Strong incense smell at the entry.

Excellent location in the heart of Kyoto. Hotel room was tidy and large enough to accomodate us despite our big luggage. Staff was very helpful to sort out a problem with our luggage transport. Nice onsen open all night.

The restaurant menu was not great (at least for us). We tried the breakfast and dinner menus and we were not happy.

Great room, design/architecture, staff and location. I would return! The hot bath facility was also really nice.

Keep in mind that the public bath is not an onsen. I thought it would be natural hot spring water, but it's worth an experience. If you are considering paying extra for breakfast, I would only opt in for a couple of days. We stayed for and ate breakfast for 4 days, and the options got repetitive since the hotel offers the same breakfast selections daily.

The Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Kawaramachi Jokyoji is in a prime location. Walking distance to shopping, Nishiki Market, and main tourist destinations. Very friendly staff.

Nothing but one advice : don’t bring big luggage’s by yourself , use the luggage’s transport in Japan.

The hotel entrance is gorgeous and relaxing. However, the atmosphere stopped at your hotel door. The room experience was disappointing. The room layout lacked practicality, offering no place to dry off after showering with limited privacy. Additionally, the pillows were old, yellow, and emitted an unpleasant odor. Unlike other hotel pillows, they lacked pillow protectors. We ended up purchasing our own pillows for a comfortable sleep.

The hotel had a relaxed vibe, and staff were lovely, helpful, and professional.

Honestly no downsides at all that I can think of

The room was very stylish and the location honestly couldn't be better in Kyoto. Less than 5 minutes away by foot from the Nishiki market (which is amazing), so you're bound to make at least a couple of trips there. The room size was much better than other hotels I've stayed at in Japan. I'll surely be booking Mitsui again if I'm back in Kyoto.

Convenient location at the border of modern and traditional Kyoto with easy access to Gion, Kawaramachi, and Kyoto Station. Lots of food nearby, clean and new rooms, quiet with relaxing onsen.

A very small thing but there wasn't anywhere to hang towels for shower - either inside the shower or afterwards, which was hard when there were two of us. Seems like an odd oversight in room design.

A beautiful hotel! The room was also a really nice size after the shoeboxes in Tokyo. Hotel staff were lovely, lobby always smelled of incense. It was also a very good location for us, train from Kyoto station and then a 10 min walk, but then you're in a good spot for getting around the city and are not far from Gion.

Hotel room was good and bigger than your average room in Japan but we missed being able to open the window and get some fresh air as I felt the air in the room was stuffy. Great location right in the city- we walked everywhere.

Once we were checked out, the hotel staff refused to assist with a dinner reservation as we were no longer guests as it's the hotel policy.

Laundry facilities were great but time your laundry well Onsen features were great! Great location, next to shopping streets.

Amazing location! So close to everything you need!!! Staff were amazing too. The rooms were clean and big enough for two of us. We would definitely recommend and stay here again if we come back to Kyoto.

The breakfast was very limited and the room was very expensive due to the Sakura season. Around triple the price of usually room rates.
