Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

It was charming, spacious and customer care was lovely. Half board which was offered by the facility is absolute must try the Kaiseki and shabu shabu which was served for dinner was truly an experience. Even the breakfast was truly amazing. The hotel is located next to scenic hiking trails and beautiful temples. The onsen to was amazing!!!

United Arab EmiratesCheck-in is very late specially that the shuttle bus services (3pm, 4pm, 5pm) need at least an hour to reach the hotel. While the check-out with shuttle services is very early so guests dont really have time to enjoy the serenity of the area.
Staff are very nice from the shuttle bus pick-up area to check-out. We didnt avail the check-out shuttle bus as we went to explore the woods next to the river which is highly recommended if you are a nature lover. In addition, the city bus going to the Kyoto Station is just next to the building so don't worry about getting lost.

PolandIf you're looking for a good ryokan experience I think this one would be a good choice. My group used the shuttle service to get to and out of the ryokan without any issues. At the ryokan itself, the staff was very attentive, friendly and nice and did their best to communicate with us using English. I really cannot overstate how great they were. Our shabu-shabu dinner as well as the breakfast was very good, I think the portions size was also quite great. Rooms were nice, had a great view, but I will say the bath in the japanese room might need some renovation work. Speaking of baths, if you have to ability to book the private bath, I highly recommend to do so. The building itself is rather old but it doesn't mean it isn't charming in a specific.way. Overall we stayed only one night but were fully relaxed and recharged before our next trip.

AustraliaDon’t expect a lush comfy bed - this is a tradition stay with mats on the floor. They were comfy enough for us for one night.
Beautiful traditional stay in Kyoto. The property picked us up at the closer train station at a preorganised time which was super helpful. We loved the private onsen. Great view. Note this is an additional charge and public baths are free. Dinner and breakfast were included. A lot of food and a brief English description was provided. Great to try some local food that we wouldn’t normally order. We also had to wear kimonos to the restaurant which was fun. Staff were lovely and hospitable.

United KingdomIt was a little cold in the room (but there was air conditioning available to heat or cool the room as needed), the amenities within the rooms were also a bit old. The bathroom smelled a little.
The location was beautiful, with a great view from the room and hiking paths very close by. The private onsen was perfect, although a little short in terms of permitted time (45 mins). The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and helpful. The traditional clothing you can wear for the stay were comfortable and enjoyable to wear. The vegetarian dinner and breakfast they made were very large and full of interesting dishes.

AustraliaIf water was to be included with the reservation of the private onsen , that would be great. We were so thirsty after onsen, had to get bottled water from the vending machines outside the ryokan. They did provide a bottle of water each in the room, but that was clearly not enough. Did not understand the menu as it was in Japanese. Google translate was able to help us figure out most of the food we were eating. Check out time was at 10am, but the shuttle bus leaves at 9.20am, which meant that we had to rush through breakfast and quickly pack up. Did not leave us much time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. It would be great if there was a later time for shuttle.
It is tucked away in between the natures. Feels zen when you step into the ryokan. The staff there are very friendly and helpful. Even though some of them did not speak much English, they did their best to help us. Private onsen was lovely. It was at an extra cost of 4000yen for 45 minutes. You have a few timings to choose from. We chose the 8.30pm slot and a staff was at the stairs waiting for us to guide us to the onsen. We had to go through an outdoor area, up some steps to get to the private bath. Interesting experience, however the water was a little too hot after a while. We had to get out of the water after about 20 minutes. There was a wide spread of food for dinner and breakfast. Free shuttle service to and from the ryokan. Picked us up from Hanazono station. The futon was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. The view from our room was amazing as well.

CanadaThe toilet room had a strange smell, and the tiled tub in the shower room didn't look clean. However this did not detract from the experience of our stay.
The traditional kaiseki dinner and breakfast was excellent - food was plentiful and delicious. Staff was very warm and friendly. We were able to book the private open air bath (additional 4000 yen), but the water was hot and the mountain view was lovely. (Best to arrive early if you are planning to book a private bath as preferred times get snapped up quickly). There is a path where you can hike up to a temple nearby, but there really isn't much else in the area.

United StatesUnbeatable staff who do everything to make you feel welcome and taken care of. I was sick for a couple of days while I was here, and felt so looked after! I asked them to put out a futon for me mid day so I could lie down, and they did this with no fuss and brought me a full tea service. On top of that, the private onsen really helped to improve my physical health. Our room was spacious, had great lighting, and we thought the futons were comfy! The dinner service was also magical in every way - make sure you’re hungry by 6 ;)

CanadaThe facilities are a bit dated and noise travels. If you are unlucky and have noisy neighbors, your experience may be affected.
Staff are incredibly attentive and welcoming. We were made to feel very special and looked after. The private bath is well maintained and has a wonderful view. Dinner and breakfast were a great experience. They provide a large amount of varied and tasty food, and for dinner this is done in a beautiful setting by the river.
