Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IsraelThe price is a bit expensive for the value. The maintenance of the facilities needs to be improved.
The hotel looks like a beautiful little village for preservation. We slept in a small house that is over 150 years old. The staff is lovely, always looking for ways to help. Dinner and breakfast were works of art.

United StatesMy only suggestion would be to replace the kerosene heater with an electric one so avoid the odor.
We had a wonderful stay at Nagataki. The staff is so gracious, extending such warm hospitality from our pickup at the train station, luggage transport to our house, yakata dressing assistance, dinner and breakfast service, and dropoff in Magome. One staff member even gave my daughter an excellent in-room massage after dinner, capping off a relaxing evening. Our 100-year-old house was charming, with not only a kotatsu and xxx inside but also beautiful views of the mountains outside.

United StatesIt snowed while we were there and the rooms are chilly! However the hotel provides wonderful hot water bottles, warm covers, and room heaters.
This is a beautiful property. The rooms are in separate small buildings so our group had its own separate space. The food at both breakfast and dinner was exceptional. Highly recommend!

CanadaOur cottage was a 400-year old house for making Sake for which we appreciated its history. However it was very cold to stay in December due to the absence of insulation. Other times of the year might be quite lovely.

The property is nestled amongst foliage…the autumn colours were beautiful and the premises peaceful. The service was excellent. Staff were attentive and ensured that the room was kept warm when we arrived from our day’s activities. They even provided hot water bottles that helped. Masaya was an excellent chef. He cooked us dinner and breakfast that was served in our ryokan course by course. There were many variety of flavours of food cooked with the skill of a master chef. We will want to come again!

A wonderful experience: the view from the camera and the onsen seems to a paint; the room service was accurate, detailed and awesome. The nicest staff I've ever seen (we annoyed the staff with a lot of requests and they satisfied all of them). I think is one of the best place not only for starting or ending the Nakasendo way but also just for resting your body and mind.

United KingdomIncredible place to stay. I spent two nights here, enjoying the local scenery and had the pleasure of eating some great food (which was an amazing set of back-to-back courses). I'd highly recommend it for people wanting to hike from Magome to Tsumago as the hosts were kind enough to drop us off at our start point via their bus.

United StatesNothing. I wish we had stayed longer! I recommend staying at least two nights
We had an exceptional time at Nagataki and will be earnestly recommending it to all our friends and family who travel to Japan. This beautiful inn is tucked away on the hillsides of Nakatsugawa and offered the authentic old-world charm that we were seeking when visiting the Kiso Valley and Nakasendo Trail. The house that we stayed in was 400 years old and was beautiful. All the staff treated us like family during our stay. They were incredibly kind, attentive, and provided us with the best meals we had during our 16 days in Japan. The staff were so thoughtful as to place hot water bottles in our beds at night to help stave off the late autumn chill, which was very cozy. I actually was inspired to purchase a hot water bottle from Muji after that experience because it was so lovely. The onsen facilities were also fabulous. We stayed for one night and were dropped off by the hotel shuttle the next morning to start our walk from Magome to Tsumago. What a magical experience. Thank you to Masaya-san and the rest of the staff!

CanadaNagataki is an amazing little sanctuary of preserved traditional Japanese homes. The gardens and small pathways between offer a nice area to meander in any season. The homes are extremely well kept and it truly feels like stepping back in time. The warmth of traditional woodwork and tatami offer an incredible experience. Washrooms are renovated and modern. Public bath is located steps away within the facility. Food was exceptional with myriad of unique local tastes and seasonal twists.

United StatesI appreciate the addition of the private bath and shower in each cottage. However, it’s too modern and doesn’t match the look and feel of the traditional house.
The service was outstanding especially the transport service. The owner and staff were all nice and attentive. We very much appreciate that the staff could communicate in English. The food was also very good. It was beautifully presented and paced out so you can enjoy the multi course meal. We also love the beautiful grounds and view from our room.
