We were so lucky to have found Nachiya- such a beautiful place in a quiet, beautiful area of Kyoto. Our host was so helpful and accommodating. He recommended local restaurants local and areas to visit. We were lucky enough to visit one and had the most incredible meal. We loved the traditional Japanese style of the accommodation; the peace and quiet; the location; the facilities and the space it had to offer.

Wonderful four nights at Nachiya. Mamoru-san is a kind and helpful host who really cares for his guests. He communicated quickly, answered our questions, provided info and recommendations and forwarded our luggage for us upon our departure. It was great to have so much space after small hotel rooms in other locations. Lovely location - walking distance to Kinkaku-ji and just around the corner from Kazariya (which you simply must visit for grilled mochi with white miso sauce) and really good access to buses and metro. Full kitchen, comfy beds, lots of amenities, beautiful furnishings. Highly recommended.

Being a local residential area, it was hard to find restaurants within a short walk.

The host made us feel very welcomed upon arrival. He recommended some local restaurants and places to visit, which we appreciated. The property was beautiful, very traditional Japanese-style home with modern amenities. Local streets were quiet at night so we slept well. It was also located in a convenient location with access to many buses. The host also helped us to book a taxi as we had quite a bit of luggage, which was very kind of him. Would definitely book again!

I love everything about this place. It was very beautiful and peaceful. The owner of the accommodation is very cute and friendly (Speak English very well) . Had a wonderful welcome. The accommodation is clean and safe and near the main road and restaurants. If I have the opportunity to go to Tokyo, I will definitely stay again. Thank you for such a beautiful and good place to stay.

The house was very spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Individual air conditioner in each room so it is easy to adjust temperature for different room. Especially love the rock garden around the house where you can enjoy the view while having a cup of tea. Mamoru san was a very helpful and welcoming host. We would definitely come back when we visit Kyoto again.

I have a great experience staying in Nachiya. The house is spacious and clean. Decorated with traditional Japanese interior and gardening arts. I spent two days with my wife and two kids. The kids love the Japanese style floor beddings. And there is free Netflix.

The owner, Mamoru-san was extremely helpful. I had a health complications on our last day and he even took me to the clinic. He gives you a tablet that has all house appliance manuals and many sites of interest around Kyoto, including good restaurants and his recommended places and restaurants. I stayed in 4 places in Japan and this one was the best, by far. Extremely recommended, especially if you're looking for that old style Japanese house experience.

    Nothing really.

The property was absolutely amazing. The house was kept in impeccable condition and it just felt incredibly authentic. Outside of the property, the owners Mamaru and Masako were honestly the best hosts that I have ever encountered in all the times that I have stayed abroad. The two of them were extremely attentive and friendly during the entire duration of our trip, with Mamaru sending me messages if there was anything that he could do to better accommodate us. At the end of our trip he even called us a cab so that we wouldn’t have to deal with Uber or the city bus. We had an excellent time at Nachiya and will definitely try to book this place again when we do inevitably return to Kyoto.

A little off the beaten path.

Nachiya is located in a quaint Kyoto neighborhood with easy access to public transportation and near some of the city's premiere tourist sights. The traditional Japanese furnishings were stunning and the facilities are very functional. The photos don't do it justice. Mamoru went above and beyond to assist us during our stay. Highly recommended.

Only one thing was the lack of a hand rail down the three steps from the bathroom to the bedroom.

We wanted to stay in a traditional Japanese accommodation called a Kyo-machiya, and the three of us loved the ambience. We had space and privacy. There were ample amenities and kind touches, making it feel like we were in a home rather than an accommodation. The mossy gardens and the giant mossy rock in the inner garden (tsuboniwa) were a joy to look out upon, especially when it was raining. After our initial consultation with our host, we never saw him again until we were leaving. He was also only an email away and ordered a taxi for us as we were leaving.

Nothing everything was amazing and clean

Lovely traditional style japanese house, beautiful setting and only a 5 minute walk from the daisen-in and daitoku-ji temples. Lots of bus stops near by so you can get places. Buses are also quite cheap only 230 yen flat fee for a one way trip (approx £1.50 gbp at time of writing). So even though this place is about 30 mins bus journey from kyoto station it doesn't matter because it won't necessarily cost more.

You are in a quiet area away from all the tourists to get a great experience of the Japanese life. There are heaps of buses within 5 mins walk that make it super easy get around. This is the most exquisite stay we had whilst travelling through Japan. The property is astonishing, Beautiful throughout, the owner was there to meet us and explained where everything was located ,the property is situated in a quite lane and is a stones throw from some of the most stunning temples in Kyoto .An electronic tablet was left with locations of local restaurant cafes and bakeries , travel from kyoto train station is around 20 minutes costing around £20 .
