Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesSome sheer drapes under the solid drapes would have allowed more light. There were apartments across the way that prohibited opening the current drapes. Also, property is old. The new owners are remodeling but it will take time.

United KingdomNeeded to book dinner and breakfast in advance, which is tricky when you don’t know what’s on the menu until you arrive. (I’ve an allergy to gluten which is a nightmare in Japan).
Room was Japanese style with tatami mats, twin beds and a decent view. Main thing we were there for was the hot springs and the hotel onsen. The onsen was brilliant, with a view, a sauna, a cold pool, a hot pool and an outdoors hot pool. I booked a private onsen for the evening for my daughter which was well appointed and very private, apart from the fact one could be seen a little by anyone on the higher path next to the sea. Staff were helpful with Takkyubin service as well, cases arrived at 2.30 as we did but check in was 3pm so went for a pleasant wander. Be aware the onsen faces EAST - so early morning bathing is required if you want to get the view in the hotel photos.

United StatesHave a queen bed in room instead of 2 twins. More pillows.
the breakfast was great, 2 different JPANESE BREAKFASTS ON BOTH DAYS. No Western breakfast choice. Hotel older so electrical wiring is still old fashion. No outlets at all by coffee table next to big picture window. Room was the largest we stayed in in all the hotels we stayed at in Japan. View from living room was spectacular, morning sunrise everyday. Hotel very convinient to dept stores and shopping mall and 7-11. Bus terminal booking office was nearby also.

This is a nice, old-style onsen hotel right at the ocean in Beppu. We didn‘t have any expectations, but booked the hotel because of its good location. The hotel features a variety of tatami mat rooms, all with futons. The futons were thin but surprisingly comfortable. The pillows are classic Japanese pillows with one harder side and one softer side. In the reception area you can pick your yukata for the evening, as well as any amenities you might need (shaver, hair brush, and so on). The rooms are spacious and clean. Our room featured a private onsen tub, with a view of the ocean. There also is a public onsen at the top floor of the hotel, and two private family-size onsen with ocean views on the floor below. We tried all three options - the hottest water was in the public onsen on the seventh floor. The private family onsen was also very nice. There are drink machines on the third floor where you can buy a wide variety of drinks. The hotel rooms all have fridges to keep food and drinks cold. If you book a day in advance you can enjoy a very tasty kaiseki dinner in the hotel. We did and it was excellent. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, and their English skills are very good. The hotel is located right at the beach, close to a wide range of restaurants and also close to a couple of shopping malls. This hotel exceeded our expectations, and for this type of hotel we give it the highest rating. Note that it is an older, classic Japanese hotel, and should compared with such.

PortugalThe room lacked some things, there were no side bed tables, there was no light for the beds, only the ceiling general one, hot water didn’t work, no coffee or tea available anywhere. And for the price, breakfast should have been included. there are many restaurants close by but very busy on weekends, better reserve.
The hotel seems to have been partially renovated and has very nice sea view, onsen is also very nice on top floor, with pool outside as well. Room was very big and had a private big bath, with natural spring water, after all Beppu is capital of onsens. There was a convenient parking place by the hotel for an additional fee, but not expensive.

CanadaToo many signs and instructions that didn't seem to be followed by the Japanese guests! Some of the staff were officious. It lacked a warm atmosphere.
The hotel is in a good location a ten minute walk from the station on the sea front. Our room was large with a tatami matting. The onsen is lovely. All the facilities are very clean. The staff were very kind although their English was quite limited.

The hotel rooms are newly renovated. Our room is on the 6th floor and we have a beautiful view of the sea. The bathtub is huge. The breakfast is Japanese style and delicious. The rooftop bath is perfect for watching sunset and sun rise.

We absolutely loved this hotel, we stayed in the Ryokan style twin room with tatami and a gorgeous view of the ocean. We used both the communal onsen and our in room one which were wonderful and relaxing. The staff were so helpful despite their limited English. The room was very spacious for 2 people and we'd love to stay again!

The outside of the hotel may look old, but our sea view room on Level 5 was newly renovated, spacious and very clean. Good range of restaurants within walking distance. Two in our group stayed in a "city view family room" - it's older, but still clean and even more spacious.

AustraliaThe amenities in the onsen could be improved. My husband and I paid for 1 hour in a private onsen, around $35.00 AUD and there was nothing in the change area like combs, cotton buds, moisturiser. I don't even recall seeing a hairdryer (I could be mistaken). These little extras really make a difference. The area was very dated but clean. There are no laundry facilities in the hotel. Staff directed us to a public laundry but we didn't have the time to wait there. We had a month in Japan so washing facilities would have been very welcome.
Hotel was handy to shops and restaurants. The onsen was lovely, especially the outdoor view over the bay. The rooms were very large but the bathroom tiny by comparison.
