Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeFood was great but was also craving for more marbled beef for Kaiseki. Wish I had booked 2 nights. Would be good if we had free drink at private bath too so we dont have to go down to 1st floor after a nice experience on the 4th. Suggestion: to provide some good bath salt for the private bath. That would enhance the experience.
Welcoming Deco (spot the little deers all over), Nice welcome drink and hospitality. Generous food portions, super comfortable beds, great private bath and view. Free drink at public bath.

A very warm welcome upon arrival, they took my bag for me and welcomed us in with a nice warm drink. Bags were taken to our room while we did the check in process. They then took photos for us on our phone and with their camera with some cute deer plushies. We were shown to our room and when we arrived they went through details of the area and best routes around Nara Park, places to eat etc. We had booked breakfast with our stay but asked if we could be fitted in for dinner which they sorted out for us. While at dinner the server explained to us what each dish was and the best way to eat it etc. She apologised that her English wasn't good but we both thought it was great and she was incredibly helpful and made the dinner an even better experience and the food was delicious. When we had arrived back to our room they had prepared our futons for us which were very comfortable. We also had the traditional Japanese breakfast which was also very good. Upon checking out they kept our bags for us so we could explore Nara Park and they also gave us a postcard and had printed out the picture they had taken of us the day before. It was the best hotel experience we had on our trip and the staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I would definitely stay here again and would like to try one of the rooms with private baths in the future. I would also recommend this as a place to stay for any friends/family visiting Nara and would like a more traditional Inn experience.

JapanStaff was very helpful explaining about the areas with night lights when we said we wanted to take a walk after dinner. We were quite picky about food and need some customization. The hotel addressed everything for us (food is also super tasty and of large quantity). The room is large and clean. Hot bath is very clean too. I hope covid can be over soon and this hotel can get more tourists

AustraliaThe room was bare bones. I understand it is a traditional style Japanese room, but there was only one power point outlet in the bedroom area. There was a TV provided but it was very small/old. There was tea available, but no cutlery. The bathroom is very old and dated. For the price paid, it was not worth it.
The public and private onsens were great and furnished well. The breakfast provided was very nice. The staff were great, friendly and helpful.

JapanThe onsen/public bath could be cleaner. For the price it was charging, I've stayed in much better ryokan with better amenities. It was a pretty hefty price to not have dinner included in comparison to other choices.
The room itself was pretty good, as they gave us a free upgrade without requesting, staff and service was really nice. Breakfast was decent. Location is pretty good, walking distance to Todaiji and Deer park.

United StatesHours of operation: (1) Breakfast - the latest we could get it was 8:30 which was way too early especially for my teens. One of them missed most of the meals. (2) Morning Spa hours - spa closed at 9 AM. Again way too early (3) Water dispenser in the lobby - why does it close during the day?

United KingdomRooms where stained and of poor quality. Roof bar not open Which we were looking forward too. (Hotel is a little away from bars on a night). Late check in and early check out. Set meal times with no flexibility. Asked to change breakfast option from Asian to European at 9pm the night before but was told it was to late to change as the chef had gone home. Asked to talk to manager..... Still waiting. Breakfast cold and already on the table when you arrived at allocated time. Was not allowed coffee with Asian choice. It felt like the hotel came first before the customer.
Location was good.

CanadaI booked this Ryokan specifically to reserve the private bath as I have tattoos and can't use the public bath there. When I arrived I was told that the private bath was closed and under maintenance. I just had come back from the Nara Park inn, which was 200$ (Canadian) cheaper a night, had a Japanese room 3 times as big, a more comfortable futon and pillow, and public baths ( non-natural ) that allowed tattoos. So it really felt like a downgrade and while the breakfast was very good, it didn't justify the extra 200 dollars since the baths are really what makes Ryokans unique. It would've been good to at least have a warning that their private bath is not working. Still, to be fair, I'm sure that if I would've had access to the bath I would've enjoyed my stay.
The hotel, staff, and breakfast were definitely nice.

United Statesthe bathroom area and entrance to our room was very small and smelled bad. Although it was clean, but strong bad odor maybe from the sink or bathtub. Only there for one night so we didn’t complain as it would have been tiring to switch rooms.
Excellent customer service and attentive staff. Location is steps from Nara park, but a little out of the way from dining and shopping. About 10 min to bus station and 15 min to train on foot. The futon sleeping mat was comfortable.

Canada- The pillow is yellow and there are water stains on it Another story: An accident happened. I sat on the chair and played my phone. Due to dry weather, I suddenly had nosebleeds. My boyfriend accidentally knocked over a teacup on the coffee table while running to get a tissue. We called the front desk, apologized, and asked for cleaning up the broken glass. A young staff came, with a displeased look on his face, he began to blame us for causing trouble, asked us to pay for the teacup, and then left the room. We expressed our apologies, thanked the cleaning staff for helping to remove the debris, and offered to compensate. When checking out, my boyfriend hoped to explain what happened, and hoped that future passengers could encounter the same situation. He proactively communicated with the staff, hoping that anyone would come to the room to check the situation together. The young staff went to the room with my boyfriend. But the attitude of the staff is still very bad, and blamed us for causing trouble to them all the way, and said why we broke the cup, but no one else. In the room, my boyfriend tried to describe what happened and tried to explain that when changing the bed, could kindly inform guests to pull the door aside, so that the aisle will be much wider, and it may be possible to avoid breaking the glass. The staff expressed impatience. He didn't think there was a problem with the placement of their seats, and said that he had never encountered such a situation as us. Then he left the room. We think it is unreasonable. Our starting point is to kindly remind them that we hope that the passengers behind can have a more comfortable environment, but the staff seems unwilling to listen to our feedback. When we finally went downstairs to checkout, we expressed our willingness to compensate for the broken cup many times, but the staff insisted that it was okay and let us go. This stay in Nara was the worst experience of our 14d trip in Japan
- The staff at the front desk who help check in are very friendly - Japanese or western style option for breakfast - Quiet neighborhood

United Kingdomthere is absolutely no view in the room, the window was facing the stair of another building - with only 5 meters distance. the hotel should have specified it in the listing that there is “No normal view” from the room. the hotel staff was unhelpful and they kept chasing you for every single things - meals, breakfast and check out! 15 mins is too much of a wait for them. stressful.
