Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.

United StatesThe garden outside our rooms was disappointing and seemed neglected. The path to our rooms made it impossible to wheel our heavier bags. The step off the room to the patio was quite steep and difficult to access. I realize that the building is quite old. I am very tall as are both of my sons and we all hit our heads more than once.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very good and very well served and plated.

The beautiful ryokan with a lot of space and traditional design. The bathroom is traditional wood with smart technology; smart toilet is the best we experienced in Japan. All drinks in mini bar are included in the room rate. Beds were comfortable but not soft. Comfortable pyjamas are provided. Staff is super friendly, but knowns very little English. The location is perfect within walking distance to all major shrines and temples. Breakfast and dinner are delicious, hotel restaurant also offers a fantastic sake selection.

Hong KongThe reception area at the entrance is small and can be more tidy. The sake cocktail preparation area could be rearranged in a better presentation and location. There are two kinds of slippers: one pair to be used from the public area to the room, and another pair to be used within the room. We got all confused! The colour of the carpet inside the room might give the feeling that it was not clean although we trusted that it was clean.
The room rate included a sumptuous Japanese breakfast and a Japanese-French fusion 7 course dinner. It was raining heavily when we arrived, such a dinner was particularly memorable and delicious. The staff was meticulous, and an elegant lady even carried our heavy bags up a steep stair to our room without being noticed. Hospitality at its best!

United StatesMy room was not the one pictured when I booked it. It was actually 2 stories and had only two small windows that looked out to the roof and sky. In that sense it was little disappointing as I wasn’t expecting it. Also I had to climb some bunk bed style steep stairs to go upstairs where I slept and my knees would feel it. I had no idea about that and didn’t see them in the pictures. I didn’t care at all for the very bright illuminated big exit sign and the big red lit circle on the fire detector alarm on the bedroom wall. I had to use an eye mask to block the light which I don’t like to use when I sleep. The food was amazing and I wish they prepared little more vegetable and tofu dishes which were really excellent when they made them, instead of so much fish for breakfast and dinner with little vegetable. This is by no mean their fault but I will communicate better with them next time. The last meal was French toast and jams and I wished it was a more Japanese one.
I wanted a comfortable place to stay in Japan that portrayed the culture and not filled with tourists, so In that sense it was truly wonderful. The room was well designed and authentic and I loved a lot the hot tub. Bed and linens were very comfortable. Bathroom and Toilet exceptional. A blend of traditional and modern. The Amenities superb. The kimono provided was a very authentic touch. The mini bar was very well provisioned. Good teas and coffee as well. All were of excellent taste and truly top notch quality. The room was on the street side and the noise was very minimal. I slept very well. The food (breakfast and dinner) was truly 5 stars from taste to presentation and choice of local in season ingredients. They accommodated my request of no red meat nor chicken. I liked seeing the chefs cooking my dinner in front of me. One staff spoke English and she was very helpful. The location was on the edge of Naramashi, the old Nara neighborhood. Close to the markets, not too far from the train station and close to several museum and temples. It was away from the touristic crowd and I didn’t mind walking into neighborhoods of real Japanese people living their daily lives. Over all I would go back in a heart beat. Excellent staff and service. Highly recommend despite being on the little pricey side.

United StatesSecond room was inferior. BEWARE, some rooms have steep ladder to sleeping area and it is never mentioned or pictured in description.
Paid for 2 rooms - same room category,description, price. One room was gorgeous with big windows, private garden. Other room was NOT at all as described or pictured. Ladder to get to sleeping loft (NEVER mentioned in description or picture). Very inconvenient. No natural light. Tiny little window above head level, no garden. Felt depressing. Very disappointed. Asked to be moved, told nothing better available.
