This was really a brilliant place to stay and something different from our hotel stay. 2 bedrooms and in a wonderful environment. Our 14 year old son especially did like the indoor climbing facility. The living room was especially nice. Open your window and be in the middle of nature.. hearing birds and the river…. While relaxing. Good ice cream on the other side of the road. Very friendly owner.

Northstar Loft was a beautiful place to stay in the Norikura Kogen area. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff were friendly and hospitable!

I seriously could not think of anything:)

Definitely a home away from home and one that will charm you with its looks, sounds and smells. The apartment has everything you could possibly need and more. But the grounds make you feel like you have arrived in one of nature's hidden little treasures. We took a cab from Shinshima station (40 mins) and paid 11k Yen, then asked the driver to pick us up again on check out. Later we discovered there is a bus that stops right across the street but the times did not suit our schedule. We walked the green Sanbondaki trail which started right outside Northstar and was absolutely amazing but definitely not easy if you are not used to walking in woods with lots of steps and elevation. There are places around for food that close earlier than expected but not an actual grocery store.

We loved how large to accommodation is , plenty big enough for our family of 5 . it is easy to get to from Matsumoto, but check the bus timetable as they only travel up there every two hours or so . the hikes around the area are very well sign posted and the trail head is only a few minutes away from the accommodation. we loved the peace and quiet, mountain air and the view of the snow capped mountains . there are a fee places to eat but limited . we brought along breakfast , lunch and snacks and one meal for dinner . we ate out for another night for dinner . loved our stay in the mountains and north star loft was just perfect for our family !

One of us had to sleep on a pull out bed but we did know this beforehand.

Good size rooms, lovely views from the living space, handy to have a tumble dryer too. It was good that there was some food to buy from the lobby because the local shops were closed.

Struggles with check in. We didn’t get the door code before arriving, and then there was nobody at the desk. There was only a local number to call, which was problematic with foreign SIM cards. When we made contact the English was good and sorted out fast. We didn’t see any staff at all during our stay, which can be good or bad. The layout can be a bit weird and as foreigners we struggled with a few of the appliances.

Onsen literally next door! Don’t go to a fancy onsen place when this is much better. To address the confusion… (booking.com doesn’t explain well) we had an upstairs apartment with our own kitchen, lounge room and shower etc. Downstairs is an adventure business. It was very quiet though and no issues at all. There was a separate shared lounge room etc. This would be the perfect location for a base for hiking in the area. The local ski field was also great and we were the only westerners. Large apartment. It’s at altitude so we had some around although nearby towns did not. Would suit a family. If you like adventure check this area out, and the drive to the other onsens is lovely.

No elevator. Hehehe. Floor is a bit slippery so it was a bit challenging to bring our luggages to the 2nd floor. But the staff (Spencer) was very helpful

Loft was very spacious and cozy. We appreciated the instructions they gave us ahead (IE: Restaurants nearby, grocery, etc) so we were able to prepare ahead. Kitchen appliances were complete. They also sell pasta/rice and curry in the lobby which is convenient since there aren't much options in the area. We also joined a snowshoe tour that they organized! It was a great experience! The guide (Spencer) was very patient and he followed our pace.

Loving every aspect of this place, it is cosy, clean, closed by to Norikura Kogen and places that we want to visit. The apartment is fully furnished and equipped with everything that we need during our stay there.

Not an issue with the hotel per se but there were few restaurants open that were accessible without a car during our stay, so stocking up on groceries prior to arrival is a must

The flat was huge and just as pretty as on the pictures. The kitchen was very well equipped. It was a great place to go hiking in the area or at Kamikochi.

The bedroom curtains were very sheer and thin meaning you woke up as soon as the sun came up. I asked for some sheets to try to block the light which helped a bit. When I’m on holiday I really prefer not waking up with the birds! I also found that there were small steps near doors that we both kept missing which were dangerous if you slipped. I also stubbed my toe a number of times on the uneven timber floor which was just part of the design.

The apartment was great. Very clean and quiet. Well equipped kitchen and laundry etc. Beautiful area in the mountains! Helpful staff!

there’s no sink in the toilet, and the bathroom could be more luxurious (although it works fine). the floor is a bit uneven and we kept stumping our toes!
