Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeOnsen is abit small but understandable as this is a small ryokan.

SingaporeFor those traveling with the elderlies, please be mindful that this traditional Japanese guest house does not have elevators and guests need to climb up the stairs to access the guest rooms.
The meals (both dinner and breakfast) served at the restaurant were exceptional, we were extremely grateful to the staff for accommodating our daughter’s vegetarian dietary needs even though we did not inform the hotel in advance. They also promptly changed our room once we noticed that the air condition unit was not working. Our special thanks to the mangers at the front desk for their excellent service.

SingaporeNothing about the property but will be good if the front line staff can improve their English :)
Beautiful ryokan with a fantastic view of sunrise and nature’s beauty! Our room overlooks the frozen river n lake! We booked the private bath and it’s totally worth it - relaxed our body and mind in the hot tub! And dinner spread is fabulous and tasty! Highly recommended.

JapanThey do have a free onsen, but the pretty, semi-outside ones are 1100¥. (They are lovely though)
Meals were very good. I also got stuck in Abashiri for one extra night because of a snowstorm and the staff was incredibly kind and generous. Very, very helpful. Thank you so much for everything! :)

AustraliaI would prefer an ensuite bathroom.
Great location for viewing the coral grass. We had a spacious room with a lake view. We arrived during very wet and windy weather and the coral grass was under water, but it reappeared next morning. During the wet weather, there were flocks of herons visible from our room. The kaiseki dinner was excellent with plenty of fresh fish. We stayed for 3 nights and it was different every day. The room had a private toilet but the bathroom was shared. We had no trouble booking one of the private onsen for a small additional charge each day. I recommend a car for this location because it is not near the station.

CanadaThe room we stayed in was probably one of the older rooms needing a refresh. The bed was hard and there was a mix up with the meal plan, I had changed (confirmed) the meal set via Booking.com chat but the original meal was served. A little disappointed but the food was still good. At checkout, we had to rectify the extra charge for the meal set that wasn't serve which wasn't a problem
Excellent location and meals. A staff member helped me carry my medium size luggage up the stairs. All the staff were kind but English was limited.

Best dinner and breakfast I've had in Hokkaido. Room comfortable with great view. Onsen clean though not very beautiful. Bed very good. Staff very nice. Gave me a lift to abashiri station which I didn't expect but was grateful. Taxi cost me a lot to get there from the station.

JapanNo complaints.
Beautiful location, room and food were incredible. While the site only mentioned they do airport/station transfers, since we couldn't drive or rent a car they offered to drive us anywhere in the area for sightseeing. We had an amazing stay. Thank you so much.

SingaporeFood would be more enjoyable if there can be some explanation on the menu, like a written note on the specialties. Staff do not speak english. The rooms had a musty smell and quite outdated. We had 2 rooms: the double room had very thin mattresses and was not comfortable at all. The shower shelf was held on by tape in that room. We paid quite a lot for the outdoor onsen room. The window screen was about to fall off, if pulled down just a little harder, and there was quite a bit of mould on the ceiling above the onsen tub. Of all the hotel stays for our 12 days in Hokkaido, this was most expensive and disppointing
The dinner had good fresh seafood, that is all we like.
