Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Beautiful location by the river, lovely Japanese style room, wonderfully relaxing private outdoor onsen which you can book for 45 minutes, amazing kaiseki evening meal. The evening shamisen performance was a nice touch. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome, spoke English to us, and catered for my husband’s food allergy. Thanks so much for a delightful stay!

It’s a beautiful hotel nestled into the hillside by the river. The reception area is amazing, especially with the Shamisen lady is playing. The traditional rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable.

United KingdomThe location is a little out of the way but we had a car so not too much of a problem.
A stunning onsen. Absolutely top class. Wonderful anbience. Greeted by a beautiful japanese woman playing the shamisen in the lobby - fantastic - with the sound of rushing water surrounding her. Staff all delightful. Rooms large and comfy with fabulous views. This was truly an only in Japan experience!

IndonesiaMaybe more vegan friendly options for breakfast buffet with clearly labeled ingredients list would be helpful for guests with dietary restrictions.
I came here as a Demon Slayer fan as the hotel is said to have inspired the Infinity Castle in the series. I absolutely loved the grand lobby with the traditional performance! As a vegan guest, the staff went above and beyond to help me make sure everything I eat is safe. I must say the short haired lady with glasses (sorry forgot her name) who speaks fluent English made me feel really at home. Thank you for the lovely experience.

AustraliaOutdated facilities/furniture, selection of amenities can be improved.
Beautiful ryokan, there's traditional music performance at the centre of the lobby from 4pm-6pm. The manga/anime Demon Slayer infinity castle based on this hotel. Well presented and tasty kaiseki dinner, good selection of breast buffet and great customer service. Available yukata that fit all sizes including baby/toddler (very cute). Spacious Japanese room with river view, although the facilities/furnitures are quite old. Interesting public bath with three tiers open bath with river/mountains view. Not so convenient to travel on public transport, but great with rental car to get there.

JapanAll rooms have not been refreshed and we found ourselves in a room the first night which was dated. The following day I convinced the hotel to move us to a different room which was really impressive and all amenities were new. The view was nearly identical since all rooms face the same mountain.
This is an impressive onsen hotel. All rooms face the natural mountain side above a fast moving river. The lobby is exceptional with live traditional shamisen music played nightly before the dinner hour. A river of water cascades through the ground floor of the lobby which adds the sound of rustling water. Guests may have (optional reserved) dinner meals in rooms near the moving water. All in all the lobby, onsen, food, and staff make for a relaxing location. The river views in any season are amazing.

United KingdomWithout a car, it is not a very convenient location but it is surrounded by the nature and quiet. We really love it! We can see the river from our room and the view is stunning. I think it is the similar view from women onsen as well. The food is good and very delicious. It's my friend birthday so I ordered a birthday cake from them and their selection of the cake is also tasty. We love the strawberry short cake. The staff is outstanding and we felt very welcomed.

United StatesI didn't like how the open bath during the evening was only for private reservation. You can only use them in the morning which was a shame.
Came to stay mainly for the demon slayer vibes. Enjoyed the performance and it was beautiful! Dinner was great. Food was good and service was good. They explained everything and able to enjoy myself fully. Breakfast buffet was nice, and I enjoyed myself with the selection.

AustraliaNot terribly geared to Westerners. A staff member with good English speaking skills would help non Japanese speaking guests. For example, we did not want to eat horsemeat which was organised for our dinner but this was difficult to communicate. In saying that, the staff were very accommodating once the language barrier was overcome.
Authentic Japanese experience, which we would not have been able to access without our Japanese speaking daughter accompanying us. Everything was meticulously presented from the room to the dinner and the staff were very helpful. The access to booking a private onsen was very appreciated.

HungaryIn the public bathhouse there was always hair on the floor of the changing room. The food was okay, the ingredients weren't as high quality. I expected a little bit more care for the food.
The onsen part of the bathhouse were really pleasant. The outer bath could make you really relaxed.

SingaporeThe staff at the reception were very helpful and were able to communicate patiently due to the limited English. The valley views from the room was nice. Room heating was good for the cold winter. The food and service at dinner was splendid. They assigned an English speaking staff member who took care of our needs meticulously.

AustraliaThe food. We stayed for 2 nights and from 1st day to last day, we were never once excited with the food. It's like hospital/elderly food. Bland and porridge like consistency. It was definitely not worth the 9 hours travel from kyoto.
The onsen were alright, with a touch of nature.
