Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaCheck-in a little chaotic, but this is obviously a popular hotel so I'm not sure what could be done to help.
Excellent onsen. Thank you to management for NOT allowing tattoos of any type - this is appreciated, even by non-Japanese, as respectful of tradition and culture. Free ice-cream, water, and drinks also much appreciated.

United StatesAwesome hot springs hotel in Kyoto. Location is good, 10 min walk to the Kyoto Station. Has everything you need in the hotel. Highly recommend the breakfast buffet they got so much food. Appreciate that they give you a passcode for the women’s laundry as well as the onsen to make women feel safer. Whole facility very clean.

CanadaThere were many people staying at the hotel during our trip and it was sometimes difficult to enjoy some of the amenities. For example, some guests were very loud and rambunctious in the onsen despite rules requiring guests to refrain from talking too loudly in the baths.
It was such a gorgeous hotel and really made you feel comfortable and relaxed. Very accessible to Kyoto Station and other nearby local stations for trips to Gion, Arashiyama and other major tourist locations. The lobby, rooms, restaurant and onsen were very well maintained and the staff were always within reach to ask questions. The hotel amenities were well worth anything extra we paid on top of a “budget” hotel.

BrazilLocation is good but not that great, despite being close to Kyoto station, is a bit far from the central region. The hotel was also packed with people, so it had lines for everything.
Breakfast buffet is amazing, with some very good food like scallops and ikura. Room is spacious and clean, and they had public onsen which was nice and had several different bath types. They also had complementary soba and ice pops which was a nice touch. Since the hotel is closer to Kyoto station and we would arrive a bit late, we decided to stay there for a day and stay in the city center on the next, I really recommend doing that, the hotel is well worth it for 1-2 days.

CanadaThe onsen is beautiful but was most of the time extremely busy. Hard to relax with so many ppl coming in and out. Maybe the hotel should charge an entrance fee to limit the high number of visitors.
Massage chairs, free ramen at night, free laundry machines, good location, good matcha machine!

AustraliaNothing not to like. No complains. Just a suggestion, perhaps more massage chairs? It is quite hard to get an opportunity to use the chair😆
A great convenient place to stay. Good location. Within walking distance to Kyoto Station and bus stops near hotel and convenient store opposite the hotel. Rooms are decent size. Great facilities - many types of hot spring spa, sauna, massage chairs , free ramen and ice cream each night and hot drinks throughout the day, laundry, microwave facility and breakfast options. The highlight is the extremely courteous men and women who work in this hotel. Ever willing to lend a helping hand or assist with a request (despite the language barrier difficulty). Some can speak english. We were very impressed with Ogawa-san. Friendly, hardworking, kind, polite and always with a smile 👍. Definitely a place that I will come back to stay. Highly recommend 👍

ItalyI struggle to find any downside in our stay.
This place is amazing. Great position, great staff, marvelous services. After a day spent enjoying Kyoto, you get to relax in their beautiful onsen (hot springs) open to every guest until dawn! If that wasn't enough already, all kind of food and beverages are available at different times of the day. In the room you'll find a traditional suit to freely move around, including a convenient pair of socks you can use outside too (in many places you're not allowed to wear shoes). The staff members are extremely polite and helpful, and you can ask them for any need or information. I thank them all for being so kind. Overall, this hotel is outstanding and is definitely one of the reasons I loved Kyoto so much.

IrelandDidn't stay long enough
The room was very comfortable. The hotel itself is very well located really close to the train station (only a 5 minute walk). The facilities were amazing and it was so nice to be able to come back to the hotel after walking around Kyoto and use the onsen even late at night. The hotel offers free ice-cream, coffees, and even ramen. If you're staying, make sure to book the breakfast. It's probably the best hotel breakfast I've ever eaten, and has so much choice

MexicoMore control and order from the hotel staff regarding the environment in the Onsen area. Many guests were noisy, especially foreigners, they didn't respect the rules for showering before entering the Onsen and were laughing and speaking loudly when it was a space for relaxation.
The Onsen space was what I was looking for. It was relaxing and comfortable, mostly. The location was also very convenient, just some blocks from Kyoto station.

United StatesThe laundry system was a little weird. Having first come first serve laundry system that doesn’t require people to use locks on the machines makes doing laundry very competitive and can lead to a lot of lost laundry. Sometimes laundry machines would be free and dryers would not, which would sometimes cause chaos.
Friendly staff, clean facilities, every operation was very organized.
