Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The family who runs this guest house has thought of everything. Looking for an extension cord so phone can be next to your futon? It’s in the room. Want to heat something up? Microwave on the 4th floor. You can adjust the lighting in the room, there’s extra blankets and I could go on. Everything is clean and cozy, and the family is very friendly. I especially liked the outdoor onsen.

AustraliaThe rooms are throwback to the 80s. Everything about the hotel was very stylish until entering the bedroom where the carpet and bed covers were very old fashioned. The washroom had turquoise basins.
The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was excellent and so was the onsen and the decor was superb..

CanadaOur room didn't end up coming with a shower, and when we arrived we realized the only shower option for us was a communal shower by the onsen. Just something to bear in mind before getting a surprise there!
Staff were extremely helpful. The room was comfortable and overall a very good stay.

AustraliaThe best staff interaction of our trip. Each time we returned the staff were genuinely interested in ensuring we got the most from their town. Always a smile and little tips on bars, highlights and the quirky side to Kiso Fukushima.

SingaporeTraditional Japanese Room is quite dated. Futon cover quite flimsy. Onsen not as nice as expected from photos. Instructions for onsen use could add “ …… after soaking in onsen to shower and rinse off with soap”. I developed rashes immediately after soaking in onsen for ten minutes, and ran off to shower again.
The entrance was grand but the room a little let down. It was to fit 5 futons, spacious but nothing compared to the grandeur at entrance. Love the reception area and lounge area.

United KingdomHaving the onsen be the only shared bathroom (no shower or bathing in any of the shared toilets) was unexpected and not well communicated on the site. Both of us staying have tattoos and were not planning on using the onsen facilities to avoid any potential issues with tattoos not being welcome (this is also not well advertised) but we were forced to make use of the onsen to shower after a long day hiking. The lack of any private shower facilities at all is not presented clearly enough on the ad. The booked meal is close to 8000 yen. Whilst it was very enjoyable, it was VERY overpriced and the cost was not advertised anywhere that we saw so it came as a surprise when we checked out and saw our bill.
Good size room (Japanese style), tea and coffee facilities downstairs were lovely

JapanThe room I stayed in was old and tired looking. Probably time for renovation, especially wallpaper and carpet.
A typical old Japanese onsen ryokan. Stayed in the cheapest room which was western style with shared toilet. Toilets were clean with enough amenities. The same goes for the communal bath. There was an air-con, fridge, TV, electric kettle, a small table, towels, and toothbrush set in the room. Yukata was free of charge at the reception area. Staff was polite and spoke English. There was a free tea and coffee self service next to the reception. A decent stay for one night.

DenmarkThe room is a bit dated as seen in the pictures, but I hated that the bedclothes are not fitted so the whole bed came undone immediately. The duvet with skirt also fell out of the bed, taking the sheets with it. On top of that, the mattress is extremely soft, I felt like I sunk 20cm on it. I rested pretty bad overall.
Onyado Tsutaya is close to a Ryokan regarding service; the staff is super attentive and helpful, the entrance is quite charming and the public bath is nice. I selected the cheapest room but the window faced towards the river, which I consider a plus. Food was good, just a tad under Ryokan quality and flavour, but plentiful. The location is OK, 12min away from the station, but the city is not that big anyways. There are two parking spots in front of the building.

AustraliaExpensive ….. same price as a hotel room in the middle of Sydney! Rooms are very dated, both furnishings and bathroom facilities.
Beautiful property with all the facilities we needed and the staff were very helpful and nice (good English skills too). We had dinner at the property which was excellent. I loved the Yakuta for each guest! Our room was very clean and quite spacious. Overall a good experience and I would definitely stay here again.
