Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TaiwanFabulous experience! This is a traditional onsen ryokan. Therefore, there's no shower or "bath"room in individual room. Everything is clean and organized. The room is really big and comfortable. The host is hospitality and kind. And the city view is also pretty good with their garden. 10/10 needless to say and recommended!

GermanyThis hotel/ryokan is absolutely amazing and is worth a visit. There is literally nothing to complain about, but just maybe two things I would like to have known in advance (which you can find on the homepage of the ryokan btw!). Number 1) There is no food (breakfast/dinner) included and also no option to book food either. But the town offers plenty of options for you. Number 2) It is actually a smoking hotel. And it surprised me as I didn't know that until I arrived (also written on the website...). But this is not a problem at all! There is literally no scent left of it and we didn't even noticed it. They really take a lot of effort to get the rooms deodorized and remove any stench of smoke. However, me as an asthmatic reacts to tiniest scents and even the strong scent of toilet cleaner, etc. But it didn't bother me much, just keep it in mind if you are having a sensitivity here before booking. 10 out of 10 points!!!
We liked everything! Especially the service that we have experienced here. Everybody was so genuinely nice and helpful. We probably did do everything wrong and yet they took the time and helped us out patiently as we struggled to put on our yukatas or getas. Or as we were too stupid to lock our room. We really really enjoyed the stay and can only recommend it to everyone else. In the booking included you get a free pass for all 7 onsen in the city which are all in walking distance. The location is great and the style and atmosphere of this traditional ryokan is amazing! The only thing that we regret now is that we only stayed for one night... We should have stayed longer!!!

FranceThe wifi had some weird configuration that didn't work with my phone / tablet - I could connect to it, but wouldn't be able to get internet access due to some error. Pretty sure it's just something they can fix, but I forgot to tell them. Another thing I didn't like was that there was no bath / shower in the ryokan, but that's likely due to the town itself - you're meant to go out and experience the different onsens (7) of Kinosaki Onsen. I can't really deduct points for that as it wouldn't be fair, though I do sometimes want to have a quick shower^^
Kinosaki Onsen is a really nice place to stay for two or three nights, and this Ryokan was one of the cheaper ones during the season. It's still fairly expensive if you compare it to regular hotels, especially since there is no food included - but that's also due to the fact that they aren't suited for solo travelers (the room I was occupying was meant for a family of 4). Speaking of rooms, they are very large, even for a ryokan! Very nice view, the staff was adorable and helpful, honestly not much else to say.

SwedenThe location of this ryokan was perfect to explore all the onsens as it is in the heart of the city, walking distance to the train station. At check-in, the friendly staff got us our onsen pass and recommendations for what to start with. They were absolutely sweet and carjng. The ryokan is old, but that makes its authenticity. The room had everything to make us comfortable, yukata to dress, and traditional japanese shoes to try. We loved our stay.

United StatesThere is a curfew for the place and I believe that’s just so people don’t get into trouble and also wreck the beautiful ryokan but it’s a small town so there really is no reason for people to be out and about late because I think the latest onsen closes at 11PM and the curfew was 1130 for the house. I also think it’s because there’s the automatic beeper whenever the door opens and closes and because it’s manned I believe by a husband and wife who are older, they don’t have the time or energy to be up all hours of the night to answer the front door.
Truly a beautiful Ryokan, the house itself was huge and impressive and the attention to detail from the owner and wife immaculate. The rooms were traditional with comfort. The yukata being included to walk around the town and onsens was a great bonus. The wife helps you with it as well so you’re not left wondering. Upon arriving the husband or caretaker gives you a map of which onsens are open, what time they close, how to get there, how far they’re from the ryokan. It was just great and you’re given house slippers and also traditional slippers to wear around town! So incredibly fortunate, the one night we were there a booking opened up for us because it is booked up the rest of the 2023 year! What luck!

United StatesThe private baths in the hotel look sad but it doesn’t matter because the 7 amazing public baths are walking distance!
The room we got was the largest we have stayed at during our Japan trip. The beds were very comfortable. The ryokan is one block from Jizo-yu onsen and the Main Street making it very convenient and very quiet. The hosts were amazing. They reached out to us and asked us when we’re arriving and let us store our luggage there while we waited for our room to be ready. Even though I didn’t speak Japanese, we had no issues communicating in English. They also gave us a pass for all the public baths and yukata to wear during our stay. It was a truly relaxing stay, and I would definitely come back!

EcuadorInitially we debated staying here because we thought that 'shared bathroom' meant we wouldn't have a private toilet. However, rooms do come with a private ensuite toilet, and just the shower/bathing area is shared. This is not an issue when you are bathing at the onsens anyway. Another thing to consider is that the wifi in the room was a bit weak - however we actually appreciated this as it helped us disconnect and relax.
Even before arriving communication via Booking was fantastic, and staff was very kind considering our requests. Once in the property, you are greeted and receive a great explanation of the hotel and Kinosaki - the staff is very welcoming and make you feel right at home. The room is very clean (bed linen, yukatas and towels smell so fresh!) and is beautifully decorated. The property is very close to one of the public onsens and a convenience store with an ATM - and you can go to all the sights in Kinosaki by walking (the main train/bus station is a 5 minute walk). There are lots of restaurants nearby where you can get a variety of local delicacies - so we felt like we were in foodie paradise. We actually stayed at two different hotels while in Kinosaki as we extended our trip (lesson learned: if possible you should consider staying for at least two nights), and this hotel was by far our favorite. We are already looking forward to coming back!

MalaysiaIt is closed to the train station. And just a stone away from an onsen place, pretty close to other onsen house too. Super friendly and helpful owners. although it is now winter, but the room is warm with heater. and the bed with thick duvet, very comfy. They provided tea set in the room for a nice cup of tea too. Everything is well prepared. They also provided the yukata and we were excited to experience it for the traditional onsen culture.
