Bath towels are provided on a rental basis (300yen if I remembered correctly). There are free face/ body towels provided though.

Very nice accommodation in the countryside. Very friendly and warmly owner, which is supporting you perfectly for sightseeing recommendations. Breakfast und dinner was fantastic and plenty. Lots of small dishes as well as local ingredients. Guesthouse is really clean and well equipped with all amenities you need. Small basic Onsen as well. Perfect place, if you like it a bit quiet and remote. There are a few buses to get around and some local sightseeing spots nearby. If you plan days with plenty of sightseeing, a car would be recommended. I've stayed in many accommodations in Japan during the last years: Pension Kaoru definitely has been one of the places, I mostly enjoyed!

It is slightly out of town and you need a bus to get there. It can be a challenge getting back on time after hiking to catch the last buses out of the main town.

It is set in a beautiful location up in the mountains. The hosts of this property are the most amazing people. They went above and beyond to help us out, especially when I got stuck after the train was cancelled late at night. They really were exceptional hosts and so friendly.

The location was lovely and quiet. A mountain resort town in winter. The breakfast was amazing the hosts extremely hospitable even though very limited English spoken. It wasn’t a problem however.

The toilet on our floor was broken so we had to use the one downstairs. During the night this was quite uncomfortable. Would've been nice to have an option for dinner, as the place has no restaurants around at all.

The place has an onsen, which was a very nice surprise. We were among the only 2 pairs of guests so it was very quiet. The room was equipped with everything we needed. Was grateful for being able to choose soft pillows over the usual hard ryokan ones. The staff was really lovely and helpful.

I wish the toilets could have been separate for men and women.

Our Host was absolutely wonderful and kind. We have stayed in Pensions before in Japan, I have to mention that their level of service was much higher than the rest. My 1 year old fell sick on our second day and the host was so kind that he called the local hospital and drove us to the ER and even managed to get the pediatrician to come and see my lil one on a national holiday!! I will always be grateful to him. the location was as pictured in bang in the middle of mountains! Cozy cottage and a little field! Lush green and wonderful. we could have our breakfast on the deck in the mornings and Dinner was different all three nights featuring local delicacies. He even customized the food for us.
