Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe futons were pretty thin, and my daughter, who’s not used to sleeping on mats on floor found it hard + uncomfortable. Room was pretty small so two small futons took up almost the entire floor space. Price seemed a bit high for very basic beach hostel type accommodations but that may just reflect local costs of island economy.
breakfast was great. Self serve, simple fare, but lots of options.

FinlandShower in the toilet room makes the floor wet front of the toilet. It would be nice to have something to sweep the water away front of the toilet after shower.
Breakfast was very nice! Near big and beautiful Aharen beach! Great snorkeling!

NetherlandsI knew it was a basic room but the ryokan felt hard on the floor. Unfortunately the building had a leaking ceiling. I missed some warning information about dangerous and venomous species in and around the island about which which species and where to expect them. It does not necessarily have to be at the pension. Behind the front desk at the pension is a paper about the dangerous marine animals.
Very friendly and thoughtful staff. Most of them speak English. They take you from the ferry to the pension by their blue bus. The location is great. You are close to the beach and all the marine activities in Aharen Beach. If you want you can borrow snorkling equipment to go on your own. The island is great for marine activities which are highly recommended and hiking. The restaurant is nice to have breakfast, lunch and dinner but be aware it's closed on Sunday for dining. Both the restaurant and the lobby are great places for meeting people. You hardly can miss people so you quickly see some familiar faces.

SpainThe fridge didn’t work so I could not use it :/
The location is great, like 1-2min from the beach. You get one day free breakfast if you book without it, which was quite a nice buffet and generous. Free shuttle from the port and back.

TaiwanThis is my first time back to this hotel in almost 7 years, and it's still as beautiful as I remember. The scenery and the beach are still stunning, and the service and food at the hotel are still top-notch. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone want to visiting AHAREN Beach. The hotel have everything you need for a great vacation, including water activities, delicious food, with reasonable prices. The service is also amazing, and they really go above and beyond to make sure you have a great time.

GermanyThe mat on the tatami was so thin so that my hip bones hurted 😆 they were kindly giving me a second mat and it was OK.
30 seconds from one of the most beautiful beaches, breakfast and dinner was very nice, friendly staff, many options for maritime activities as well as cycling, hiking, or island hopping. I truely love this place. One cannot expect more for this price.

CanadaUnfortunately the ferry we were supposed to take got canceled because of bad weather. We would have expected the hotel to let us know since they were supposed to take us there in the morning. Instead we had to find out by ourselves at the last minute to try to reorganize our plans. They didn’t speak much English which was also a challenge.
Great location right by the port. The place organized pick-up for us and the breakfast that was included was great.

CanadaThere was an ant situation in my room. This can't be avoided given it's a tropical stay near nature, but it did make it rather uncomfortable sleeping on the floor with them crawling on my sheets. Also, the futon was thin, as most traditional tatami stays, but I found it a bit hard sleeping on the floor
Lovely staff, clean facilities, and close to the beach, which is worth the visit. Good authentic breakfast. Self serve green tea available at all times. Individual heat pump in every room, which worked well. Overall, good value for the stay.

GermanyThe room itself was clean, but the tatami mats seemed to loose it's fibers, which were constantly spread across the room. The mattress was quite thin, so sleeping on the floor was a bit firm.
Friendly and we'll organised staff. The room is simple but sufficient for a short time stay. The interior and bathroom are bit old but clean.

South KoreaThe only thing that I didn’t like, and that was my mistake for not asking in advance, was the price for the boat snorkeling trip, almost 50 US$ for half an hour of not really interesting snorkeling is way too much.
The room was kind of basic but very clean. Air con was working fine. The Japanese style breakfast was very good and abundant. Personnel was very nice and helpful.

JapanRestaurant staff living next room and other guests were very loud, so it's not a place to get a good rest. It's perfect to snorkel at the beach or take part in a diving tour, though. Showers are in a public area below the guesthouse and warm water stops at 10:30 pm.
Location was great! You have everything you need right next to the hotel (Aharen Beach, hotel restaurant, snacks & drinks for sale at the reception). The breakfast buffet had lots of options (rice, fish, vegetables, cereal, bread, fruit). You can shower and wash your gear in the common shower area below the guesthouse, and there's a place to dry your stuff as well. There's a free pick-up and drop-off service to Tokashiki and Aharen ferry ports!
