Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyWe knew before, that it would be insanely busy with tourists at daytime. Going up between 10am and 5pm by taxi is not possible.
The location and the hotel is just stunning. Especially in the evening and at night, when all the tourists are gone, there’s a very special and peaceful atmosphere.

AustraliaThere is no breakfast provided as part of this accomodation. This is located in the heart of Gion and on a narrow road that is closed to traffic on weekends and public holidays. You will need to drag your luggage through hordes of annoying people.
This is a stunning hotel in the heart of Gion. Whoever developed this hotel knows what they are doing and want to provide guests with an exceptional experience. This hotel is very comfortable with generous room sizes (although there could be more space for clothes to be hung/folded). The revamping of an old 50's concrete apartment block and the amazing views of the Shrine are phenomenal. The staff are exceptional, friendly, helpful, aiming to assist with everything!

New ZealandWifi not good - likely due to the concrete of the building and age. Fridge froze our drinks and the couch was really hard to sit on. All first world problems tho and definitely not that important! Not the hotel specifically, but note the location there are very few restaurants open at night in immediate area, need to walk a small amount to find. Again … not a big deal as the restaurants we found were worth the walk!
Loved the look of the room, the view, the bed very comfortable, staff were exceptionally friendly and the coffee container beside the hotel wonderful and open early!

United StatesAs mentioned, a rooftop that was better utilized would be a star attraction, and no elevator might be an obstacle of some.
This hotel is a 1950's apartment block converted to a hotel. The vibe is industrial, with off the form concrete walls, industrial style fixtures, steel doors. We found it really comfortable, even though there is no elevator and we were on the third (top) floor. They have a nice rooftop with a great view of temples and the city (sunset side), but should take advantage of it and have a bar, or at least some sort of set up. The location is wonderful on a, mainly, walking street with shops, restaurants, and several breathtaking temples. The steet goes up the hill for a spectacular view of the city.

SingaporeThe hotel location is next to one of the busiest and touristy streets in Kyoto, and as such taxis are unable to stop directly at the hotel. You would have to drag your luggage up the cobblestone pavement to the establishment which can be a hassle with all the tourists around. It is also not very close to any train station and buses discourage passengers from carrying large luggage onboard. The closest train station, Gion-Shijo, is about a 15 minutes walk away. There is no elevator on the premises.
The room has a rustic feel and is great for backpacking travelers. There is a great view of the Yasada Pagoda from both the room we had and the roof on the 3rd floor. If you wish to visit Kiyomizu-dera Temple in the wee hours of the morning and avoid the crowd, I recommend staying at this hotel as it is a 5-10 minutes walk away from the temple itself, which opens at 6:00 AM.

JapanI think the roof has a lot of potential, but right now it's not much. It might be nice to include TVs in the hotel room. It has a very industrial Brooklyn type feel all around which is cool, but it felt a bit run down.
Location was great. Having a coffee stand right outside was very nice, and the staff were very friendly.

United StatesPerfect location. This was such a cool hotel and lots of details were meticulously chosen for the vibe. The staff was helpful and friendly. They downplayed their English abilities when asked, but their English was excellent. There is a laundry on site which can be helpful for packing light. The room was spacious, maybe around a standard US room size, with a spacious shower. There is a little outdoor cafe right outside and this hotel is just steps away from many historic streets. This hotel was truly unique.

New ZealandDue to its location, it’s quite deep in the Yasaka area with narrow streets where all the tourists walk. So it’s a bit of a hassle with taxis.
This is the second time we’ve returned. First time was during our honeymoon. Great location in the Yasaka area. Walking distance to the tourist spots. Great view of the Yasaka Pagoda if you’re in a room on the upper levels from ground. Comfy bed, modern rustic feel and look. Spacious room comparing to other Japan hotel rooms. Zip line clothesline and retractable hangers which gives it a neat modern housing touch. As an Asian I really appreciate the shoes off aspect where you leave your shoes and have an upper step onto the rest of the room where it is expected that the rest of the room is not walked all over by outdoor shoes. As I don’t see these in the Tokyo hotels. They have a 24hour rooftop access for all guests that gives you a great view of the Yasaka Pagoda and areas around. Staffs are very nice and accommodating. Offering umbrellas when it rains and assisting with luggage and taxi if required.

United KingdomI think I fell in love with the hotel even before I saw my room: the reception was beautiful and I received a warm and friendly welcome. But how I loved my bedroom: It was large, beautiful and full of light, every detail was designed to be aesthetically pleasing and comfortable. And what a view! In earnest, because of the way the hotel is structured and because of the size of the room, It was as if I had my own apartment right in the centre of Gion. There are also washing machines available at the hotel - what else can one ask for? It was a real pleasure to spend time in my room in-between sightseeing, I felt perfectly at ease and I was actually sad when it was time to leave. If I ever come back to Kyoto I will definitely stay here again. Thank you!
