Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyWe had a nice stay at Red Helmet. We arrived in the morning and were able to leave our luggage until check-in. The beds in the dorm were spacious and with all necessities, the kitchen and the living room a good place to hang out in the evening! Walking distance to the train station, also some conbini and restaurants around. Staff was super friendly and helpful, let us borrow the vacuum cleaner to vacuum-pack some of our clothes for the journey! :)

United KingdomNothing, it was fantastic!
My favourite hostel out of 20+ I’ve stayed in while in Japan! This place is AWESOME! Firstly, the location is great - only 8 mins walk to the main JR station and super close to convenience stores and really nice okonomiyaki restaurant. The owner even made a map with recommendations. The owner is so nice and speaks really good English. The whole time I was there the place was absolutely spotless, so so clean even for Japan. And, uncommonly for Japan, there was a really big common area/lounge with loads of games, books and things for you to hang out with where you can meet people and chat. Capsule was spacious and comfy, the bedding was also very soft and I slept so well when I was there. No noise or disturbance from the sports bar downstairs. This place is a must stay in Hiroshima, especially if you’re a solo traveller!

JapanThere's no breakfast option. The bathroom is shared and you have to go out into the hall for it (though this is the same for other Japanese places I've stayed). The beds can be a little uncomfortable since they're wooden boxes with thin mattresses and blankets, but I slept fine after the first night of getting used to it.
The host knew enough English to have a conversation with and was friendly. He took the time to go through the guidebook with me about how to use the lockers, wifi, etc. The place is only a 10 minute walk from Hiroshima station. It is very clean and I felt safe. I was also impressed by the community room upstairs. It's spacious, has a place for video games, a comic book collection, and chill atmosphere. There is a washer and drier area on the top floor, and you don't have to bring your own detergent because it's automatically added.

United StatesSocial area closes kind of early A little far from the nightlife area - but it’s Hiroshima and tourists aren’t here for that. I recommend checking it out though! Could be hard to find, but I was OK finding it at night.
Very nice sleeping area, super private for a hostel Clean Close to the main station, good if traveling a lot Quiet Nice social area

United StatesMy only real issue was that the bed wasn't as soft or comfortable as I needed. I didn't ask if they had an extra bed pad I could use (some hotels do) but usually the hostels don't offer these.
Excellent location, awesome shared kitchenette, parking, great staff, and a full sports cafe! Furthermore, the layout was unique, taking up an entire apartment building, and I would recommend this place for long-term stays.

NetherlandsMaybe the ventilation in the big lounge. It seemed a bit hot and stuffy, which made me feel a tad dizzy. The lounge is officially part of the bar, so when there is an event on you might not be able to use it for some hours (dont think that happens too often tho). Its a sports bar/hostel, so the atmosphere/design is as such. Beds/pillows were pretty nice, but maybe not for people who like it soft and fluffy.
It's as if the hostel is designed by someone exactly understanding what you desire to have as a traveler: big bed spaces, powder room, good shower pressure, clean, kitchen with all basic stuff, an outdoor area, cheap washing machines, a massive lounge with games, tables, and comfy couches, lots of lockers, a bar downstairs, and even the big dorms have enough feeling of privacy. Very friendly (and English speaking) staff too! Location is not the most buzzing but its nice and quiet and still super close to everything.

BelgiumThe staff is super friendly and the hostel is on a 10min walk from the train station. Everything was very clean and there's a big lounge room. Just note that the beds in the dorms have typical thin Japanese mattresses. It didn't bother me but it might be too hard to sleep on for some.

BrazilThe beds were just a thin futon over a hard wooden plate. It was quite uncomfortable to be honest, I wish the futon were a bit thicker. The hostel layout is a bit weird, although not a big deal.
Location is good, around 10-15 min from Hiroshima station on foot, in a quiet neighborhood. Close to the baseball stadium, for those who are in the city for it. Hostel had all the basics, staff was very friendly too.

SpainYou have to take your shoes before entering, it is a cultural thing that keeps the site clean but I don't feel comfortable leaving my shoes next to the entrance, the door is code locked at least.
Location, price, cleanliness, staff, service, everything that you would need from a hostel they have and for a good price.

GermanyThere is only one shower for the whole female dormitory plus the 4-bed-room. Of course you can go to the mixed floor and take a shower there but there are many people staying there as well, so I don't know if that makes sense. The common room is connected to the sportsbar with open stairs, so if it is loud in the sportsbar, it is also loud in the hostel's common room.
It was very clean and there were only 2 other people in the female dormitory, so we had plenty of place. There is a whole floor only for women with an own bathroom. The staff was very nice and helpful.

GermanyThere was nothing we didn't like. The only thing that could be mentioned is that there wasn't much space for luggage in the womens dormitory - but the capsules were big enough to sleep next to it.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the whole accommodation was very clean. The capsules were big and quite comfy. Also the hostel provided small and big lockers for free, and the kitchen was well equipped. As a bonus it had nice smoking areas on the balkonies.
